Across The Universe

Endless rain into a paper cup
They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe.
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
Are drifting through my opened mind
Possessing and caressing me.
Jai Guru Deva. Om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Images of broken light, which
Dance before me like a million eyes,
They call me on and on across the universe.
Thoughts meander like a
Restless wind inside a letter box
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe.
Jai Guru Deva. Om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Sounds of laughter, shades of life
Are ringing through my opened ears
Inciting and inviting me.
Limitless undying love, which
Shines around me like a million suns,
It calls me on and on across the universe
Jai Guru Deva.
Jai Guru Deva.
Jai Guru Deva.
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
The song "Across the Universe" by Stephanie Rearick seems to be about the experience of consciousness and how the mind can be both expansive and ephemeral. The lyrics describe how thoughts and feelings are constantly flowing, slipping away, and meandering, and yet they can also possess and caress the mind. The imagery of "endless rain" and "pools of sorrow waves of joy" suggests the depth and breadth of human emotion, which can be overwhelming and yet also beautiful.
The chorus, with the repeated phrase "Nothing's gonna change my world," may be interpreted as a sort of mantra or affirmation, a way to stay grounded amidst the swirling thoughts and emotions. The phrase "Jai Guru Deva Om" is a Sanskrit chant meaning "Hail to the shining guru within" and further adds to the spiritual undertones of the song.
Overall, the song seems to be an invitation to embrace the vastness of the psyche and to find beauty and solace within its complexities.
