This is a Trinidad disco record from the 1970's recorded in the KH Recording Studios in Sealots Port-of-Spain. KH Recording Studios are the same recordings studio where Lord Shorty the inventor of soca did some of his first experimental soca recordings in 1973.

Same liquid bass as on the Stanton Davis record Brighter Days. Getting the fusion vibe listening to it. What unit they ran the bass through to get that sound in the 70´s i wonder. Anyone know?

yep definitely an envelope filter, set so the maximum cutoff never gets very high at all (so it sounds more muted and the high end never aggressively jumps out). if your footwork was really good and careful you could manually recreate a similar tone with a wah pedal (the same thing, but where the filter's cutoff is controlled manually, rather than automatically by the loudness of the input audio signal). there might be some subtle phaser/flanger on it too. it's a fantastic tone and really cool playing too

Talking about Foolin'? If so you need to take a listen to that track again. The did not sample this record at all. Also, Foolin' came out in 95 and Disco/Lypso Illusion has been hiding in Trinidad and stayed undiscovered until 2012.
