Lean On Me
Stephen Hill Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow

[Chorus]
Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won't let show

You just call on me brother, when you need a hand (Chorus)
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on

Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won't let show

[Chorus]

If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me

[Chorus]

Call me (if you need a friend)
Call me (call me)
Call me (if you need a friend)
Call me (if you ever need a friend)
Call me (call me)

Call me
Call me (if you need a friend)

Overall Meaning

Stephen Hill's song Lean on Me is a powerful message of support and comfort for those who are facing difficult times in their lives. The lyrics speak of the reality of pain and sorrow that we all experience at some point in our lives, and yet the song ultimately offers hope. Hill reminds us that if we are wise, we can recognize that there is always tomorrow and that we will get through our struggles. The chorus is a direct call to lean on the singer when we are not strong, and to know that he will be our friend and help us carry on.

The second verse is particularly poignant in its message. Hill encourages us to swallow our pride and ask for help when we need it. He recognizes that we all have needs that go unexpressed and invisible, and he knows that we won't be able to carry our loads alone. The refrain "we all need somebody to lean on" is repeated to emphasize the message of friendship and support.

Overall, Stephen Hill ably captures the feeling of loneliness and vulnerability that comes with difficult times, and offers an uplifting message of hope and friendship. This song has resonated with many people over the years and has become a classic symbol of support in tough times.

Thank God that Bill & Gloria made all these AWESOME recordings. Many of the singers have passed on to Glory to join the Heavenly Choir, but one day we will join them. Until then we can enjoy what is left of them via Youtube. God Bless

I, too, thank God that Bill & Gloria made these AWESOME recordings. What worries me is that Bill & Gloria will die and we won't get to hear this beautiful music anymore. Either that or because I'm old, now, I'll end up in a Nursing Home soon, and will have no way to hear this music. I love God, but I'm scared. Please pray for me !! God bless us all !!

@watchingmymouth

Prayers for you Kathryn Mitchell. Some nursing homes have cd players and dvd players. Let's pray that you never have to enter a nursing home, that the Lord will let you be healthy enough to live on your own or with some assistance. God Bless you.

Thank you, Susan!! Prayers for all of us !!!!
