King
Stephen Jerzak Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I met her at the school dance
Her brown har, oh it caught my eye
And by the Spring we were dating
And after a while,
It was a waste of time

She's just another
Girl like the others;
I'm not changing for a thing.

I'm the King of the world
And you're the Queen of the brainless
Please, hang up the phone
And we can end this rather painless
Yes, I can be cruel, but I know this much is true
You can't find another me, but I can find a million you's

She dyed her hair blonde
And made captain of the cheerleading team
Hung out with the cool kids
Ditched class and broke it off with me

She's just another,
Girl like the others;
I'm changing for a thing.

I'm the King of the world
And you're the Queen of the brainless
Please, hang up the phone
And we can end this rather painless
Yes, I can be cruel, but I know this much is true
You can't find another me, but I can find a million you's

She's just another,
Fake like the others;
I moved on to better things.

She's just another,
Girl like the others;
I won't change for anything.

I'm the King of the world
And you're the Queen of the brainless
Please, hang up the phone
And we can end this rather painless
Yes, I can be cruel, but I know this much is true

You can't find another me, but I can find a million you's
(x2)

Overall Meaning

"King" by Stephen Jerzak is a song about a boy who ends a relationship with his girlfriend because she changes herself to fit in with the "cool kids." He realizes that she is just like every other girl he has been with and he is not changing for anyone. The lyrics are quite blunt and show the arrogance of the boy character, who believes he is the "King of the world." He tells his ex-girlfriend that she is "Queen of the brainless" and that he can easily find another girl like her, but she cannot find another guy like him.

The boy describes how he initially fell for his girlfriend's brown hair and they started dating, but he later found out it was a "waste of time." She changes herself to become a cheerleader and hang out with the "cool kids," but ends up breaking up with him. The boy character feels that he has moved on to "better things" and that his ex-girlfriend is just "fake" like all the others.

The song has been interpreted by some as promoting toxic masculinity, as the boy character looks down on his ex-girlfriend and belittles her for trying to fit in with others. However, others have seen it as a commentary on the pressure to conform and how it can cause people to lose their sense of individuality.

Jazz pop

I can't tell if he is just a jerk or if he is saying that she was trying to control him and he was better of without her either way catchy song

Anna Queen

Jazz pop I think he's saying that all the girls fall for him and change, trying to be the same, when all he wants is someone to be themselves.

Hoi I temmie

Jazz pop listen to there song they made called queen it should help I think

ZoulStar

Without context, this just seems like he wasn’t able to handle her and gave up in due to her responsibilities within the school. I get that this is a break up song, but without the context that the girlfriend was a controlling b***h using him, the guy comes off as a jerk who couldn’t wait on her when she was doing her own things, being inconsiderate of her, instead of the other way around.

Exodus

If I ever break up with someone, I'll just use this song instead of telling them myself.
