Lay It Down
Stephen Pearcy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know you don't really know me
I know you don't really care to see me
I'm into total affection
Not being scared if you never please me
You know you really want to lay it down
Right now
And how
I know you really want to lay it down
Right now
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Under the sheets you will find me
I know that nothin's for free
You take what's good for your pleasin'
I'll take what's good for this crazy evening
You know you really want to lay it down
Right now
And how
I know you really want to lay it down
Right now
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
And I know you only want romance.
I'll give you all that I can.
If you give me just one chance
To prove myself
In love
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Yeah yeah yeah
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down
Lay it down

Lay it down

Overall Meaning

In Stephen Pearcy's song "Lay It Down," the first part of the song seems to be about a guy who is trying to convince a woman to have sex with him. He acknowledges that they don't really know each other very well and that she doesn't seem to care about him. However, he's still into being affectionate with her, even though there's a chance that he might never be pleased by her. The chorus repeats the title phrase "lay it down" multiple times, which is probably referring to having sex. The second verse of the song continues with the theme of two people having a casual fling. The singer knows that his partner is just using him for her own pleasure, and he's willing to do the same. However, he seems to be a little conflicted because at the end of the song, he says that he wants to offer her romance and prove himself in love if she'll just give him a chance.

This song seems to be about the clash between physical attraction and emotional connection. The singer is trying to convince his partner to have sex with him, and he seems to enjoy the physical aspect of their relationship. However, he wishes that they had a deeper connection and that she valued him more as a person. As the song goes on, he seems to become more desperate to prove himself to her, going from wanting a fling to offering her romance in just a few lines. Despite the somewhat sleazy subject matter of the song, it's interesting to see the different emotions and desires that the singer is experiencing.
