by far the cleanest, most useful and accurate headphone / speaker test on youtube. The buzz/rattle sweep works very well. I get the occasional buzz on the lower end of the sweep while using bluetooth, but perfect clear sound using the 3.5mm cable

i always thought i'm a bit deaf on right ear (when sopranos go above certain frequency at the rehearsal, right ear used to ring), but with this i hear low frequencies better with it.. and everything else is equal. Checked with swapping headphones

One question regarding test 2, "channel levels". The right channel sounds a bit lower pitched than the left channel. Tested this on my speakers as well as on my headphones. Different amps, both solid quality. Is this normal, or is my hearing busted?
When performing the polarity check, I get a perfectly centered sound though.

The L & R signals are identical in Test 2, so in a properly calibrated setup they should measure (and sound) the same. There are many variables in any setup but you're right, it could be your hearing - a simple test is to flip your headphones around. Try playing the R headphone speaker into your left ear, L into right ear. If you still hear the same issue - i.e. right ear sounding lower pitched - it's likely your hearing. If not, it could be the headphone/speaker, or any signal processing that happens before it (amp, dsp, etc).

Great! Yes that's exactly what to expect with mono summing (L & R channels electronically or digitally added together). And for more thorough testing of polarity across the spectrum lows-mids-highs, try the Extended Audio Test version

Probably the weirdest question/statement, but i have the brand new V moda crossfade 2 hybrid's and while using them in wireless mode the left feels a little bit softer in terms of bass clarity (just slightly though) so i switched sides to see if it was a problem with my ears and weirdly enough the overall sound is better when i wear them inverted, any suggestions/fixes?

Thanks a lot ! I was running my hiFi system (Beard amplifier and La Scala speakers) thinking for 2 weeks that voices weren't as centered as they should... polarity was inverted on a speaker after I cleaned them two weeks ago... very stupid mistake... to stupid to have thought about it without listening to your audio test !!! They were sold as Samsung Headphones and I think they most likely are. Maybe just a one-time mistake in fabrication.

During the "Normal" section, the noise signal is identical in the L & R channels. During the "Inverted" section, the R channel is inverted (negated), relative to the L channel.

This tests relative polarity between L & R channels, to make sure they are aligned. Absolute polarity of the system could still be incorrect (e.g. flipped wiring on both L & R speakers) while passing this listening test.

Strange thing... My sound system reversed right and left for the 3.5mm stereo jack (but not for my digital inputs for some reason)... So today I bought two adapters one Female 3.5mm to dual RCA females (red and white) and one with dual RCA males (also rex and white) to 3.5 mm male. By connecting the two pairs of RCA I can reverse the left and right just before the dolby decoder...

Strange part is that when I connected red to red and white to white I expected the problem to remain (because I shouldn't have changed the signal path yet). But to my surprise left and right suddenly became correct at speaker output... I reconnected without my makeshift dohicky and the problem resumed. My only conclusion is that one of the two adapters (by the same manufacturer) must be mislabled...

Just goes to show that one should always try out cables by listening to the result.

Anyways, great sound test. I will use it on other systems I come across. And including the in and out of phase was great too.

This found an issue! Center image stability showed on my sleeping head level adjusted speakers that I had L and R wires crossed on my Sound Engine speakers for -months-, how embarrassing ! I had to replay it a few times to be sure but the pupping both ends of the copper color speak wire red, well that doesn't lie, it was spot on, thanks

I'm having quite the amount of worries right now. So i tested my Brookstone speaker, due to the thing falling on the damn tile floor a few days ago. When I got to the bass test, at right about 86 Hz and a little bit before that, i noticed the speaker started making a buzzing noise and then the speaker began to rattle (Note that the speaker is on Max Volume). Now i tested this with my Sony XB-60, and I encountered the same problem, yet the Sony is brand new. Does this mean that my speaker is damaged, or is it just because of the high volume? Or are both speakers damaged? Please respond, I beg of you.

I suspect the signal is getting distorted before it ever gets to the speaker input. Trying lowering the volume on your playback device or using another playback device and see if that solves the problem. To troubleshoot better it would be helpful to know what playback device you're using for each speaker, what that volume was set to on that device for each test, what kind of connection from playback device to speaker (analog/wireless?), what frequency range of the sweep causes the distortion.

At 0:04 the top/left one always sounds higher in pitch to me using my laptop's speakers or over-the-ear headphones. When I put my headphones on backwards, the right one (which is supposed to be left) sounds higher.

I would guess the offset is not caused by a hearing problem. It's possibly a laptop sound card issue, a cable issue, or simply that both your headphones and speakers happen to have a similar offset because of manufacturing tolerances. Listening to the same video on other devices, headphones, and cables can help pinpoint the source of the problem.
