Caravan Holiday
Stereophonics Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
At the time we were plain old me and you
It didn't matter that the sky came down
I never really felt like going out
Seven days watching rain inside with you
Saturday watched the game you fried our food
Nothing busy nothing easy but something you
My ship sank and my shoes were damp
Seven days hearing rain inside with you
There's always time to complain about the weather
Seasons change in a day just like each other
But we wait for summer
Seven day holiday in the rain with you
Lie awake drinking late is all that's left to do
Not a sound but the rain on the pale blue roof
It didn't matter that we couldn't sleep out
I never really felt like sleeping rough
Seven day holiday drinking dry with you
There's always time to complain about the weather
Seasons change in a day just like each other
But we wait for summer
Seven day holiday in the rain with you
Seven day holiday in the rain with you
The lyrics of Stereophonics's song Caravan Holiday describe a week-long getaway during which it rains incessantly. The singer reminisces about spending seven days holed up inside a caravan with a loved one, doing nothing in particular but enjoying each other's company. The rain doesn't seem to bother them, and they find ways to entertain themselves and pass the time together. They watch TV, cook food, drink, and stay up late, listening to the rain hit the roof. Despite the less-than-ideal weather, the singer feels content and grateful to be there with his partner.
The lyrics convey a sense of intimacy and togetherness that arises from being confined to a small space with someone you care about. The rain, which might seem like a nuisance to some, becomes a backdrop for their memories. They don't need to go out or have grand adventures to make the most of their holiday. It's just about being together and appreciating the simple things in life.
Overall, Caravan Holiday is a nostalgic ode to a past experience that has become precious in retrospect. It celebrates the power of love and companionship to make mundane moments memorable, even in the face of uncooperative weather.
