I Wanna Be Your Dog
Stereophonics Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In my room, I want you here
And now we're gonna be face to face
I'll lay right down in my favorite place
And now I wanna be your dog
And now I wanna be your dog
And now I wanna be your dog
And now I'm ready to close my eyes
And now I'm ready to close my mind
And now I'm ready to feel your hand
And lose my heart on burning sands
And now I wanna be your dog
And now I wanna be your dog
And now I wanna be your dog
Well, come on
And now I wanna be your dog
And now I wanna be your dog
And now I wanna be your dog
Well, come on, well, come on, well, come on
The lyrics of Stereophonics's song I Wanna Be Your Dog revolve around the desire for a certain person to be present with the singer in their room. The singer expresses their hope to face their desired companion whom they refer to as "you." They deeply desire to lay right down in their favorite place with this person by their side. The repetition of, "And now I wanna be your dog," expresses their desire to be wholly submissive to the person they are singing to. This line is derived from the title of the iconic song "I Wanna Be Your Dog" by The Stooges, but Stereophonics has made it their own with their emotional take on the classic.
The chorus's repetition adds a deep sense of urgency to the song's lyrics. They express their willingness to become this person's pet in the most submissive and loyal form imaginable. The lyrics, "And now I'm ready to close my mind," show a complete surrender of the singer to the one they are addressing. The urgent plea to come on in the final verse calls for the person's presence to fill up the void the singer is experiencing in their life.
The song is open to various interpretations, but its melancholy lyrics depict a deep sense of loneliness and surrender. The song ends on a begging note as the singer screams to come on, which seems to be an attempt to grasp the attention of the person they are addressing. Overall, Stereophonics's interpretation of the song adds an entirely new dimension to the classic Stooges track.
