Lady Luck
Stereophonics Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Our arms are open for the thing we want
But what we want we just can't have
What could've been but the timing's bad
Don't cry, cry baby now
You're my, my Lady Luck
Into the night, to places no one sees
I never learned from looking back
You picked me up from off my back
But now it seems our time has passed
Don't cry, cry baby now
You're my, my Lady Luck
You picked me up right off my back
I'd fallen down, you brought me up
We shared the night until the morning comes
To take us back away to where we chose to belong
But maybe we're wrong but we gotta be strong
There's too much to lose
And maybe we're fools, who knows
Who knows, who knows
Who knows, who knows
We follow the signs to make us meet
Into the night, to places no one sees
The lyrics of Stereophonics' song Lady Luck are about the ups and downs of a romantic relationship. The opening lines "We're falling now, can't make it stop" capture the feeling of being powerless in the face of the relationship's trajectory. The couple has their arms open for what they want, but they can't have it, and the timing is bad. This could refer to the fact that the couple has fallen in love, but external factors such as distance or obstacles prevent them from being together. The chorus "Don't cry, cry baby now, You're my, my Lady Luck" could be interpreted as a tender reassurance that, even though things are tough right now, the connection between the two is still strong.
The following verses talk about the effort the couple makes to meet each other and how they share special moments, but the time has passed, and the relationship has changed. The line "But now it seems our time has passed" marks the transition from the first part of the song to the second. Instead of talking about what has happened, the song turns to the future. The lyrics "But maybe we're wrong, but we gotta be strong" show the couple trying to make sense of their situation and find the strength to carry on. The last two lines of the song "Who knows, who knows, Who knows, who knows" underline the uncertainty of their future, leaving the ending open to interpretation.
