Long Way Round
Stereophonics Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm the one ya dreaming of
I'm going for a ride
I'll keep you warm inside
Gonna roll up the sidewalk
Gonna tear up the ground
I'm coming round to meet you
Sooner or later
I'll get me off this track
Gotta do what it is that I do
The I'm coming back
Got the sun in my face
Sleeping rough on the road
I tell you all about it
When I get back
The lyrics of Stereophonics' "Long Way Round" depict a man setting out on a journey and leaving his loved one behind. The opening lines, "Remember me my love, I'm the one ya dreaming of," show that he is aware of the deep love they share, but he needs to go for a ride. He assures her that he will keep her warm even if he is not physically present. The next few lines, "Gonna roll up the sidewalk, gonna tear up the ground, I'm coming round to meet you, the long way round," reveal that the man is going on a long journey to meet his love, and he is ready to take any route that comes his way.
The chorus, "Sooner or later, I'll get me off this track, gotta do what it is that I do, then I'm coming back," explains his belief that he will have to return eventually. However, he needs to go and do what he needs to do, and he hopes that his love will understand. Lastly, the lines "got the sun in my face, sleeping rough on the road, I'll tell you all about it when I get back" depict a man who is unafraid to embrace difficult circumstances while he is away, and he promises to share all of his experiences with his partner on his return.

@jklas4591 Agreed ! There seemed to be a LOT of tension between everyone during the Long Way Diwn journey.
Do you think it started with Ewan's then wife Eve wanting to go on the trip with the boys?
I know if I had planned an ultimate adventure with my girl friends and one of their husbands just randomly decided to go with us, I wouldn't be too thrilled about it.
And it seemed like Charlie was kind of aggravated about it from the start but didn't want to ssy anything and become the jerk that told Ewan that his wife couldn't go. But you could tell that he felt left out and pushed aside.
I thought her going was ridiculous! Both with Ewan agreeing to let her go.
And her, only just then, having an inclination to learn how to ride a motor bike (after 48 years) just because she was seemingly jealous and might have wanted to keep tabs on her husband.
Did you notice the part where she rode out to one of Ewan's favorite hangouts in England? It was the 1st place she rode to. That was weird and a little creepy.
If I were in her place, I would have asked my husband to take me on a separate trip that just he and I could enjoy.
Obviously, the whole thing bothered me.
