Wonder
Stereophonics Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wanted it all, wanted what I could not control,
I just can not control it all
I leveled it off
To a place where I can feel alive
And not weighed down at all
I'm learning a lot
Learning that I've just gotta let go,
I cannot carry it all, it's not who I was
Taking me back to the place
Where I loved when I was just a boy
Don't you wanna,
Just remember who you are?

I wanna be, back in our summer,
Do you remember?
Come with me
No room for thunder
Not going under
I wanna be free, breathe, dream about
Our summer, I'll always wonder

Yeah we wandered around,
Swimming at night under the stars
And no-one there to bring us down,
We'll never be down
Now I know that when I think back,
All this stuff's a state of mind
Don't you wanna,
Just remember, who you are?

I wanna be, back in our summer,
Do you remember?
Come with me
No room for thunder
Not going under

I wanna be, as good as it was,
It wasn't enough, I wanted it all,
I wanted too much, I'll never forget,
About our summer,
I'll always wonder,
About our summer
I'll always wonder,
About our summer

I'll always wonder,
About our summer

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Stereophonics's song Wonder revolve around the theme of nostalgia and self-realization. The singer of the song seems to be dwelling on the past, specifically on a summer memory, and wanting to relive that moment once again. The lines "Taking me back to the place, Where I loved when I was just a boy" and "Do you remember? Come with me, No room for thunder, Not going under" suggest a yearning to escape the current reality and go back to a simpler and carefree time.

However, as the song progresses, the singer also acknowledges that holding onto the past cannot be a permanent solution to their problems. The lines "I've just gotta let go, I cannot carry it all, it's not who I was" indicate a realization that they need to let go of their past and move on to the present. The song ends with a sense of acceptance that the memories will always be cherished but cannot define the present. The phrase "About our summer, I'll always wonder" sums up the bittersweet feeling of nostalgia.

Overall, Wonder is a song that beautifully captures the human tendency to romanticize the past while trying to cope with the stresses of the present. The lyrics carry a relatable message that emphasizes the importance of coming to terms with one's reality and adapt accordingly.

What a great epic song. This is so unlike any of their other material. How do more people not like this song?

Hearts & Minds Aligned

Heard this at a seafood restaurant and realized it was stereophonics. Their cover of "don't let me down" is epic btw!

Yeah, that was me. I was in Old Navy or some store with my wife and usually the music they play is shit. But this song came on. I was blown away. But none of their other stuff is like this.

Varun Ravichandran

Haha, must be coincidence but I think you've posted the same thing on their Facebook page? That you first heard it at a clothing store, etc.? :)

SchwarzWeiss X

old navy is a clothing store

I have a question. This song is awesome. I love it. But how come it sounds like nothing else the band has ever done? I can't stand anything else the band does. But this song is epic.
