Oh I Want to Know You More
Steve Green Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Just the time I feel
That I've been caught
In the mire of self.
Just the time I feel
My mind's been bought
By worldly wealth.
That's when the breeze begins
To blow I know,
The Spirit's call
And all my worldly wanderings
Just melt into His love.

Oh, I want to know You more!
Deep within my soul I want to know You,
Oh, I want to know You.
To feel Your heart and know Your mind,
Looking in Your eyes stirs up within me,
Cries that says I want to know You
Oh, I want to know You more.
Oh, I want to know You more.

When my daily deeds
Ordinarily lose life and song,
My heart begins to bleed,
Sensitivity to Him is gone.
I've run the race but set my own pace
And face a shattered soul,
But [And] the gentle arms of Jesus
Warm my hungering (omit 'ring') to be whole.

Oh, I want to know You more!
Deep within my soul I want to know You,
Oh, I want to know You.
And I would give my final breathe
To know You in Your death and resurrection,
Oh, I want to know You more

Oh, I want to know You more
Oh, I want to know You more

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Steve Green's Oh I Want to Know You More are about the singer's desire to deepen their relationship with God. The first verse speaks of the struggles of materialism and the distractions that keep them from fully surrendering their heart to God. The singer acknowledges their shortcomings and their need for the Holy Spirit to guide them towards a more meaningful spiritual path. The chorus expresses the singer’s passionate longing to know God not only on a surface level but deep within their soul. They want to feel His heart and know His mind, and nothing will satisfy this craving.

In the second verse, the singer expresses their frustration with themselves, and how they've allowed the busyness of life to detract from their devotion to God. They feel their heart bleeding, and their sensitivity to God diminishing. They realize that they've been running their race at their own pace, not at God's, and this has left them with a shattered soul. Despite this, the singer understands that it is only through surrendering to Jesus that they can be made whole again. They know that they need to deepen their relationship with God, and they are willing to give their final breath to know God in His death and resurrection.

In essence, the song captures the essence of the Christian life - the desire to have a more meaningful relationship with God. It speaks of the struggles that Christians face, the distractions and temptations that threaten to derail our faith. It is a beautiful melody that expresses our deepest longings for a more vibrant spiritual life.

What a wonderful new years resolution that would be, if only we could live up to that!!✝️. We need to ask the Lord to give us the strength to be repentant every day, for repentance should be a daily thing.
