Here Comes The Sun
Steve Harley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right
Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun

And I say it's all right
It's all right

Overall Meaning

Steve Harley’s “Here Comes the Sun” is a song about the first rays of hope after a long, cold, and lonely winter. The singer welcomes the change that is brought by the approaching sunlight declaring that it’s all right. He addresses a little darling, representing someone who has suffered or been through an overwhelmingly long winter. He acknowledges that it has been long, and he can feel that winter has been lonely, but with the coming of the sun, there is reason to smile now. The singer evokes the imagery of spring approaching as he anticipates the sun by repeating “sun, sun, sun, here it comes.”

The winter symbolizes a dark and depressing time in one’s life. It could be about battling depression, or it might relate to a physical ailment or a difficult period that one has gone through. It is said that George Harrison wrote the song while he was recovering from an illness one spring, in Eric Clapton’s garden. It was produced by George Martin and recorded in 1969 by the Beatles for their Abbey Road album.

Just as good to hear it now, as it was originally.

@beejay3728

does this song relate to the long hot summer of 76 ? or is it just a coincidence? 😎🔥😉🙂 obviously I know the Beatles sang this top tune originally

There used to be a much slower version of this song. This is too fast and hyped!!! This sounds nothing like the version from the 80s soft rock

@Sagittarius-A-Star

Completely overloaded BS version of a world hit - a shame.
Don't misunderstand me - I was a fan of this version decades ago but now I realize how bad it is.
