(2) Steve Lacy (July 23, 1934 – June 4, 2004), born Steven Norman Lackritz in New York City, was an American jazz saxophonist and composer recognized as one of the important players of soprano saxophone. Coming to prominence in the 1950s as a progressive dixieland musician, Lacy went on to a long and prolific career. He worked extensively in experimental jazz and to a lesser extent in free improvisation, but Lacy's music was typically melodic and tightly structured. Lacy also became a highly distinctive composer, with compositions often built out of little more than a single questioning phrase, repeated several times.
After Lacy was diagnosed with cancer in August 2003, he continued playing and teaching until weeks before his death on June 4, 2004 at the age of 69.

The lyrics to Steve Lacy's song "2gether" are a reflection of the feeling of love and the hopes and dreams associated with it. The phrase "twinklin' hearts" is a metaphor for the mutual feeling of attraction and affection that the two individuals share. The lyrics also suggest that this feeling is one that should be acted upon, as the singer asks to be told when to stop, indicating a desire to continue to pursue this person.
The chorus of the song focuses on the desire to be together forever. The repetition of the phrase underscores the importance of this message to the singer. The "together forever" line is repeated over and over again, emphasizing that this is the most important thing to the singer. The final section of the lyrics ("Together, -er, -er / Er"), repeat the word "together" in a truncated form, emphasizing the idea of unity and the desire to always be together.
Overall, the lyrics are a testament to the power of love and the desire to be with someone forever. The use of metaphor and repetition enhances the emotional impact of the song and underscores its central message.
