(2) Steve Lacy (July 23, 1934 – June 4, 2004), born Steven Norman Lackritz in New York City, was an American jazz saxophonist and composer recognized as one of the important players of soprano saxophone. Coming to prominence in the 1950s as a progressive dixieland musician, Lacy went on to a long and prolific career. He worked extensively in experimental jazz and to a lesser extent in free improvisation, but Lacy's music was typically melodic and tightly structured. Lacy also became a highly distinctive composer, with compositions often built out of little more than a single questioning phrase, repeated several times.
After Lacy was diagnosed with cancer in August 2003, he continued playing and teaching until weeks before his death on June 4, 2004 at the age of 69.

Save me
Take me
Oh, oh, oh
Grab me
Hug me
Hold me
Close, close, close
When you lay me down
When you lay me down
Baby
Touch it
Rub it
Slow, oh, oh
Grab it
Stroke
Kiss it
Oh, oh, oh
When you lay me down
When you lay me down
When you lay me down
When you lay me down
At first glance, the lyrics of Steve Lacy's song "Lay Me Down" may seem explicit and sexual, but upon closer inspection, there is a deeper meaning to them. The repetition of "Baby, save me," indicates a sense of vulnerability and the need for comfort and security. The singer is asking their partner to hold them and take care of them. The repetition of "When you lay me down" suggests that the singer feels safest in the arms of their partner and wants to be physically connected with them.
The sexual undertones of the song are also significant in their own right. The lines "Baby, touch it, rub it, slow" and "Grab it, stroke, kiss it," refer to intimacy between the singer and their partner. However, it is important to note that the song puts emphasis on the act being consensual with the repeated phrase "When you lay me down." It can be interpreted as a desire for a physical connection with the partner, but only when it's done with love and care.
Overall, the song speaks to both physical and emotional needs, and how they can be intertwined within a relationship. It shows vulnerability, trust, and a desire for a deeper connection with a partner.
