Steve Lacy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning
Baby girl, we can do all the thangs you want to do
Thangs you want to do Thangs you want to do Baby we can do whatever you wanna Call the shots girl you can do what you wanna
I mean I got some shit that I can put you on
But it's your dance so do whatever you wanna Baby girl, we can do all the thangs you want to do
Baby girl, we can do all the thangs you want to do
Thangs you want to do Thangs you want to do
In Steve Lacy's song "Thangs," the lyrics are a simple but effective expression of the willingness to spend time and engage in activities with a significant other. The repeated phrase "Baby girl, we can do all the thangs you want to do" emphasizes the importance of mutual respect and communication in a relationship. Rather than dictating what they will do or imposing their own interests, Lacy emphasizes that the other person is in control and can choose what they will enjoy.
This message is reinforced in the following lines, with Lacy stating that his partner has full authority: "Call the shots girl, you can do what you wanna / I mean I got some shit that I can put you on / But it's your dance, so do whatever you wanna." This reinforces the theme of communication and mutual respect, as Lacy is willing to suggest things but ultimately emphasizes that the other person should lead.
Overall, the lyrics to "Thangs" reflect a simple but important message about relationships. The importance of communication, respect, and mutual interest are all highlighted, with Lacy recognizing the importance of letting the other person guide the relationship.

(2) Steve Lacy (July 23, 1934 – June 4, 2004), born Steven Norman Lackritz in New York City, was an American jazz saxophonist and composer recognized as one of the important players of soprano saxophone. Coming to prominence in the 1950s as a progressive dixieland musician, Lacy went on to a long and prolific career. He worked extensively in experimental jazz and to a lesser extent in free improvisation, but Lacy's music was typically melodic and tightly structured. Lacy also became a highly distinctive composer, with compositions often built out of little more than a single questioning phrase, repeated several times.
After Lacy was diagnosed with cancer in August 2003, he continued playing and teaching until weeks before his death on June 4, 2004 at the age of 69.
