Steve Miller (born 5 October 1943) is a blues and rock and roll guitarist and performer. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin but attended high school in Dallas. While at St. Mark's School of Texas, he formed his first band, The Marksmen. Miller taught one of his classmates, Royce Boz Scaggs, a few guitar chords so that he could join the band; Scaggs became better known by his nickname, Boz. Miller attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison during the 1960s, where he formed The Ardells. Scaggs joined the Ardells the next year. Ben Sidran was added to the Ardells as a keyboardist the following year.
In 1968, Miller formed the Steve Miller Band, with Scaggs handling vocals, and released an album, Children of the Future, the first in a series of discs rooted solidly in the psychedelic blues style that dominated the San Francisco music scene at the time. Scaggs would leave the band after a couple of albums with vocal chores taken over by drummer Tim Davis; Miller himself would begin singing occasional lead on 1969's Brave New World. These albums performed respectably on the album charts but failed to yield a hit.
In the 1970's the band had some hits that became classics over the years - Jet Airliner, with some evocative lyrics that brought home the loss of life on the road; and The Joker which includes the famous line about the "pompatus of love", which is of course nonsense, but that didn't stop a lot of stoned folks from spending years talking amongst themselves.
Steve Miller's father was a wealthy doctor in Dallas, and friends with famous guitarist and guitar designer Les Paul. Les Paul gave Miller his first guitar lessons.
Longtime member Norton Buffalo (harmonica player) died from lung cancer on October 30, 2009.
John King (drummer during "The Joker" era) died after a short bout of kidney cancer on October 26, 2010.
Band-member James Cooke died from cancer on 16 May 2011.

It's no surprise, I just keep on trying
If you're out there somewhere tonight
Would you think of me, ooo-eee
Baby we live in two separate worlds
Sure ain't living in a perfect world
So I'm calling out wherever you may be
I'm all alone
Remember your touch
I'm all alone
I think I love you too much
And I know wherever you are tonight
You'll begin to see
Baby we live in two separate worlds
Sure ain't living in a perfect world
So I'm calling out wherever you may be
Ooo-eee
So you're in the country
Where the air is so pure
You know that's me who's knocking
Baby, knocking on your door
And if you're flying in a plane
High up in the sky
You know I'm calling out your name
You know that baby I'm your guy, yeah
Miles between us
And we count the days
Miles between us
And there's two separate ways
I'm with you even when you're far away
Baby we live in two separate worlds
Sure ain't living in a perfect world
So I'm calling out wherever you may be
Oh, oh, oh
Baby we live in two separate worlds
Sure ain't living in a perfect world
I'm with you even when you're far away
Calling out wherever you may be
Calling out wherever you may be
Calling out wherever you may be
Calling out wherever you may be
Calling out wherever you may be
Calling out wherever you may be
Calling out wherever you may be
Calling out wherever you may be
Calling out wherever you may be
Calling out wherever you may be
The Steve Miller Band's "Lost in Your Eyes" is a melancholy love song about two lovers who are separated and living in two separate worlds. Miller's narrator is openly emotional and vulnerable, confessing to feelings of loneliness and love that are too strong to be ignored. The opening verse shows the singer feeling broken and crying, feeling the weight of the distance between the two of them. He hopes that wherever she is that she is thinking of him.
In the second verse, Miller's narrator acknowledges that they each live very separate lives, in different parts of the world, and that their perfect world exists only when they are together. The bridge of the song shows the singer reaching out, calling to his love wherever she may be, whether she's in the country or flying high in the sky. The song's chorus reinforces the central idea that they are apart, but he is still with her even when she's far away.
Overall, "Lost in Your Eyes" is a beautiful and candid love song that conveys the power of love over distance and separation. It speaks to the universal human condition of needing and desiring connection with another person, despite all obstacles.
