Rockin' Guitars
Steve Morse Band Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Why oh why
Everybody asks me, they say
What makes you do it
Why if it makes you pay
I'm not sure
If I can tell you that I know
I guess I'll give it a go
*Just one night
That it really got to me
I heard some music
The wail of the beat
People were dancing
They all began to shout
Rockin' guitars
That's what it's all about
I just couldn't stand it
I had to join a band
When it's in your blood
You gotta play all you can
Why do you think
That every player hits the road
They just wanna do it
No matter how far they go
Once had a night
I'm sure that you can say
There was a band
That put you right away
Jumpin' and dancin'
I bet you had to shout
Rockin' guitars
That's what it's all about
I refuse to scream
(*Repeat)
Play that guitar
It's time to bring it out

The song "Rockin' Guitars" by Steve Morse Band is an ode to the power and allure of rock and roll music. The opening lyrics, "Why oh why, everybody asks me, they say, what makes you do it, why if it makes you pay," highlight the common societal perception that pursuing a career in music is risky and often financially unstable. However, the singer of the song acknowledges that they cannot explain their passion for music to others, but if they are willing to listen, they'll give it a go.
The chorus of the song, "Rockin' guitars, that's what it's all about," emphasizes the central role of electric guitars in rock and roll music. The energy and excitement of rock music are conveyed through the repetition of the phrase "rockin' guitars" and the call to action, "play that guitar, it's time to bring it out." The singer describes being moved to join a band after experiencing the power of rock music firsthand, and suggests that other musicians feel the same irresistible urge to pursue their passion.Overall, "Rockin' Guitars" is a celebration of the joy and vibrancy of rock and roll music.

Yep... got to meet him and Morse at the Atlanta NAMM around this time... awesome to hear them play unplugged. I fondly remember introducing my wife to Lee... I pointed him out and told her he was the greatest country guitarist of all time... he took her hand and softly spoke in his native English... the look she gave me! She thought I was jerking her chain until she saw him playing on stage later that night.
