If You Need Me Call Me
Steve Perry Lyrics

She said I want you to understand
I"m not off to someone new
I don't even have one waitin' in the wings
So I mean it's not like we're through
It's just I'm young, not innocent
Ooh perhaps the space to grow
I've learned from you and I thank you a lot
But it's time one of us go
If you were alone
If you were alone
If you need me, call me
I'll be there when you want me girl
I'll be waitin'
Hopin'
With my arms wide open girl
To tell you the truth
I started to cry
When I heard those words last night
Ooh that's when I realized she had to live
She's be back if it was right
If you were alone
If you were alone
(call me)
Yeah
(call me)
If you were alone
If you were alone
If you need me, call me
I'll be there when you want me girl
I'll be waitin'
Hopin'
With my arms wide open girl
If you need me, call me
I'll be there when you want me girl
I'll be waitin'
Hopin'
Ah...
(Whenever it rains)
(Ah...)
(Whenever it rains)
(Whenever it rains)
(Whenever it rains...whenever it rains)

I saw Journey at the long beach arena off the Infinity Album.
The arena was cut in half and was free seating.
Journey came out with old Journey before Steve with Greg Rolie singing.
I kept wondering, where is this new singer Steve Perry.

After a few songs, They introduced the new lead singer...Steve Perry. If i remember the first song was La Do Da and then Patiently and i think Open the door.
Steve walk off stage and they did more Journey songs before Steve Perry. Then Steve Perry came back and did another song or two, then Wheel in the sky and that was it.

But i left that night knowing this guy was the real deal, not a studio singer.
After that i never missed a journey show.
The ride ended at the long beach arena with two nights sold out off of the Raised on Radio Album.

That was a New Years Eve show.

I look back now and cherish all those shows

There's the pop / rock songwritingThere's the Journey signature harmoniesThey were awesome as a completely different type of band before him, but he brought what everyone knows as JOURNEY to the band. They've never written a song worth listening to since he left the band. He brought out the best in everyone in that band. They're a great live band to this day, but it's hard to watch them without him singing his songs.

I believe Greg Rollie's part was a key ingredient as well. They just all meshed perfectly. Even with Cain's inclusion, they created memorable tunes for that style of early 80's music. But I wholeheartedly agree that there hasn't been anything worth a dime since Raised on Radio. Trial By Fire....meh. Feel like the creative magic had waned by that point.
