Christmas is now drawing near at hand
The time of year is approaching when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Come serve the Lord and be at His command
Follow God's teachings and obey His commands.

And God a portion for you will provide
If you serve the Lord, God will provide for you.

And give a blessing to your soul beside
You will receive a blessing for your soul if you serve the Lord.

Down in the garden where flowers grow in ranks
Go to a peaceful place, like a garden, to pray.

Down on your bended knees and give the Lord thanks
Kneel down and show gratitude to God.

Down on your knees and pray both night and day
Pray to God regularly, no matter the time of day.

Leave off your sins and live upright, I pray
Stop sinning and live according to God's teachings.

So proud and lofty is some sort of sin
Some sins, like pride and arrogance, are particularly unpleasant to God.

Which many take delight and pleasure in
However, some people still enjoy committing these sins.

Whose conversation God doth much dislike
God dislikes the way these people speak and behave.

And yet He shakes His sword before He strikes
God will punish those who continue to sin and disobey Him.

So proud and lofty do some people go
There are people who are arrogant and vain.

Dressing themselves like players in the show
They dress up and act like performers.

They patch and paint and dress with idle stuff
They spend time and money on material possessions that don't matter.

As if God had not made them fine enough
They try to improve on what God has already given them.

Even little children learn to curse and swear
Some children pick up bad habits like cursing and swearing.

And can't recite one word of Godly prayer
However, they may not know how to pray to God.

Oh, teach them better, oh, teach them to rely
Parents and mentors should teach children to trust in God.

On Christ the sinner's friend, who reigns on high
Jesus Christ is a friend to sinners and a powerful figure in Heaven.
