Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee Steven had a love for music at a very young age. "Growin up, I heard music all the time. My mom would play the Jackson 5, Earth Wind and Fire and I couldn't get away from Al Green songs if I tried! It made me appreciate old school r&b and eventually I began mimicking what I'd hear, tryin' to sound like those singers. I don't know, somethin' just clicked. I was obsessed with how music could control emotions and make u feel things. From then on, it was a wrap. Music was all I cared about and I knew it was what I wanted to do."
Working with some of the top producers in the business, including Elvis "Da Black Elvis" Williams, Kendrick "Wyldcard" Dean, Kwame and others, traveling back and forth to L.A. and NYC; the work began to pay off. "I got to Atlanta, and have no idea how but ended up around the right people. At that point it was grind or go home. I didn't care about anything but making music. I'm sure everybody was probably thinking 'Who's this skinny kid and why won't he leave the studio?' I just always tried my hardest and thankfully people saw something in me."
Steven found a mentor after being thrown into a sink or swim situation in then, an up and coming producer Shama "Sak Pase" Joseph (Rihanna "Man Down", Jay-Z & Kanye West "Who Gon Stop Me"). "Sham was the first producer I ever had a in-studio writing session with; before that I'd just write at home and bring the song in to demo. I was scared as shit but somehow we made the biggest song I think I've ever written and it kept going, song after song. He and I developed this crazy musical chemistry and he became a mentor to me like a big brother. Sham was the first person I went to when i decided to start workin' on my own music."
Fast forward two years and Steven Christopher is ready to release his first solo project "HeartbreakSexDreams" a 12 song EP Co-Executive Produced by Shama "Sak Pase" Joseph.
"Its pretty much my take on love and relationships. I wrote every song beginning to end, based on real personal experiences so it's almost painfully honest. Once people get pass the beats and melodies they're like 'Damn this shit is deep, I been through the same thing!' I think everybody's been at a point where a relationship's driven them to drink a time or two."
Musically the HeartbreakSexDreams easily walks the line between what's new and classic. It mixes hard hitting yet atmospheric tracks like "Better" with nods to the 80's and 90's quiet storm like "Right Now" and the Shama Joseph produced "Love You Down"; one of a number of tracks featuring live instrumentation. "I think the project shows my duality as an artist; I'm a huge fan of Kanye West and Usher but am heavily influenced by artists like Prince and The Isley Brothers. I had to figure out how to incorporate both sides of the spectrum because both make me who I am. I think we did it."
With a youtube following of over 1.2 million views Steven Christopher has an already budding fan base of young girls all over the world; "I get messages and tweets from London and Australia; its crazy how music spreads. I love my fans to death they've been with me for years before I even had my own music. My focus right now is giving my fans the best music I can and just tryna grow as an artist. Just a singer."
Steven Christopher is currently preparing to begin performing and bring the music to life onstage. "I look at artists I look up to like Prince, Michael Jackson, Kanye West and realize with them they set a standard. For themselves. Every time you hear or heard something new was coming from them you just knew it was gonna be dope and it's due to them accepting nothing but perfection, allowing themselves to dream, and workin' their asses off til they get what what they're tryna achive.
Only One

I'm for real
Give me all of me and everything that I'm not
Yeah, I'll be so good to you, you, you
Give me your all, I'll give you all my heart
I'm for real
Lay it on the line, and won't share with nobody
Don't we have so much to lose, lose
And when you give up
That's when I'll give in
That's why I'll give you love
‘till I got nothing
Damn it, that gotta feel mutual, mutual, mutual
‘cause the truth ain't fair,
Hearts get broken
And I don't wanna be the only one
If you care, you gotta show it
‘cause I don't wanna be the only one
Give me your all, I'll give all I've got
I'm for real
Give me all of me with every vein of my body, yeah
‘cause baby I care for you, you you
‘cause when you give up
That's when I'll give in
That's why I'll give you love
‘till I got nothing
Damn it, that gotta feel mutual, mutual, mutual
‘cause the truth ain't fair,
Hearts get broken
And I don't wanna be the only one
If you care, you know you gotta talk to me
‘cause I don't wanna be the only one
Give me your all, I'll give all I've got
I'm for real
Yeah yeah
I'm for real
Yeah ey ey ey ey
Give me your all, I'll tell you how I feel
I'm for real, uuh for real
Yeah yeah ey ey ey ey
‘cause the truth ain't fair,
Hearts get broken
And I don't wanna be the only one
If you care, you gotta show it
‘cause I don't wanna be the only one
‘cause the truth ain't fair,
Hearts get broken
And I don't wanna be the only one
If you care, you know you gotta show it
‘cause I don't wanna be the only one
Oh, the only one
Don't wanna be the one one
The lyrics to Steven Christopher's song "Only One" revolve around the idea of mutual love and vulnerability in a romantic relationship. The singer starts by asking his partner to give him their all, promising to reciprocate and be good to them. He emphasizes the importance of trust and not sharing their love with anyone else, acknowledging the potential loss that could come from not being fully committed. The chorus repeats the sentiment that the singer doesn't want to be the only one invested in the relationship, and urges their partner to show their love in return. The bridge highlights the reality that hearts can get broken and the need for open and honest communication to avoid being the only one left hurting.
Overall, the message conveyed by this song is one of mutual investment and commitment in a relationship. It recognizes the vulnerability that comes with opening up to someone and the courage required to take that step together. There is a desire for honesty and clear communication, as well as a recognition of the potential for hurt and the importance of avoiding that through a mutual effort.
