By the telephone
How can I believe
That the cure for what you've done
Is coming after all I've seen
So don't say that you will when you can't
And we won't have to do this again
Why won't you take back your clothes
Take back your borrowed radio
Take back your lines and give me all I wanted
Time to go I will not miss you so
You can't go back
Everybody knows your name and they're waiting
For your next attack
How can I be nice
If I'm going back to you I'm following my bad advice
So don't say that you will when you can't
And we won't have to do this again
Why won't you take back your clothes
Take back your borrowed radio
Take back your lines and give me all I wanted
Time to go I will not miss you so
The lyrics of Stevie Ann's song You Done Me Wrong talk about a woman who has been left waiting by the phone all night by someone who has done something wrong to her. The lyrics suggest that the person who has wronged her is trying to make up for their mistake by coming back and fixing things, but she is not sure if she should trust them again. The line "How can I believe/That the cure for what you've done/Is coming after all I've seen" speaks to the idea that it is difficult to forgive and forget when someone has hurt you deeply.
The second verse of the song continues with the theme of mistrust, as the woman asks the person who wronged her to take back all their belongings and leave. She does not want to be reminded of the pain they caused her and does not want to give them another chance to hurt her. The line "How can I be nice/If I'm going back to you I'm following my bad advice" suggests that she knows it is not a good idea to forgive this person, but she is still considering it.
Overall, the song speaks to the difficulty of trusting someone again after they have hurt you. It is a common experience that many people can relate to, and Stevie Ann's lyrics capture the conflicting emotions that come with this experience.
