Secret Love
Stevie Nicks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come on it's time to go upstairs
But I don't want to be leaving you here
I can't go be in that room alone
When I know that you're down here in tears

I'm not asking "forever" from you
I'm just asking to be held for awhile
In a timeless search for love that might work
We're already paying the price

But you need some rest
My darling, it's best
But we've already passed it, I cried
Ooh, eeh
Listen to me
My secret love secretly
Died

Come on it's time to go outside
'Cause I don't want to be leaving you here
I can't go be in that world alone
When I know that you're down here in tears

I am not asking salvation from you
I'm just asking to be saved for awhile
In a timeless search for love that might work
Still we're already paying the price

But you need some rest
Darling, it's best
But we've already passed it, I cried
Ooh, eeh
Listen to me
My secret love secretly
Died
Oh, you need some rest
Oh, you need some rest
My darling, it's best
Ooh

My secret love secretly
Secretly died

Overall Meaning

In Stevie Nicks's song Secret Love, the singer addresses a lover, imploring them to take some rest and leave her behind. The lyrics suggest that both the singer and the lover have been looking for love that might work, but the search has been in vain, and they have already been paying the price. The singer does not ask the lover for salvation or commitment, but just to be held for a while.

The line "My secret love secretly died" is one of the key elements of the song. It refers to a love that did not materialize, but remained hidden and secret. The singer seems to suggest that this secret love has died, and with it, any hope of finding true love. The mournful tone of the song is underscored by the repetition of the phrase "you need some rest", which adds a sense of weariness and exhaustion to the lyrics.

Overall, Secret Love is a poignant love song that explores the theme of unrequited love and the pain that comes with it. The lyrics are simple yet powerful, and the melody adds to the melancholic mood of the song.

I met her at the premiere in Long Island for In Your Dreams. She and Dave sat behind me and my sister in the theater When it was over I turned to speak with her and we chatted and told her she has been my Idol since 1973 I asked to shake her hand and we did. She is funny and sincere. DREAMS DO COME TRUE 🎩🌙💖🕊

Amazing, young boy from Wyoming in 1983.. Stevie Nicks? Who's that?
I've learned after 30 years just how much she is The Queen of Rock...

@oksalbright

She used to have a ranch by Guthrie, OK, and I was visiting that worked at NAPA, and she walks to pick up some parts for her car. I was starstruck. Listening to her talk with my friend I could tell this was not her first time in. He told me she lived on the outskirts of Guthrie and always came in to pick up the parts. This was around 1988.

Where would be without this woman? This woman that touches our soul with her poetry and songs. This woman that feels, lives and breathes the same life that we do and can put it into words better that we ever could. This woman, that faces adversity with us, but can weave a magical story out of it and inspire us to live the dream - imagine it, and live it. Thank you, Stephanie Lynn Nicks - forever in our hearts, forever our Gold Dust Woman xxxxx
