Sorcerer
Stevie Nicks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm tired
I'm thirsty
I'm wild-eyed
In my misery

Timeless in your finery
It's a high price
For your luxury

Sorcerer
Who is the master
A man and woman on a star stream
In the middle of a snow dream
Sorcerer
Show me the high life
Come over
Let me put you on ice

All around black ink darkness
And who found lady from the mountains
All around black ink darkness
And who found lady from the mountains
Lady from the mountains

I'm tired
I need you badly
I'm wild-eyed
In my misery

Timeless in your finery
It's a high price
For your luxury

Sorcerer
Who is the master
A man and woman on a star stream
In the middle of a snow dream
Sorcerer
Show me the high life

Come over
Let me put you on ice

Overall Meaning

The song Sorcerer by Stevie Nicks is a hauntingly beautiful piece that talks about the desperation of a woman who is seeking the company of someone who could make her forget her misery. She feels tired, thirsty, and wild-eyed in her misery and is willing to pay any price to find solace in someone else. The lyrics "timeless in your finery; it's a high price for your luxury" reveals that the woman is seeking the company of someone who is wealthy and elegant, which could make her forget her miseries even temporarily.

The chorus of the song talks about a "sorcerer" who could be the master of the woman's fate. This sorcerer could be a man or a woman who is powerful enough to take her on a star stream in the middle of a snow dream. The idea of "star stream" and "snow dream" could symbolize an alternate reality, a place where the woman could forget her misery and live a life of luxury. The lyrics "show me the high life, come over let me put you on ice" could mean that the woman wants the sorcerer to take her on a journey of high life, but also could be interpreted that the woman wishes to numb herself from the pain and put herself on ice.

The song concludes with the repetition of the phrase "all around black ink darkness" and a question about the "lady from the mountains" who is found by someone. This phrase creates an eerie and mysterious feeling which remains unexplained in the song, leaving it open to interpretation. The overall theme of the song is about a woman who is looking for escapism from her misery and is willing to pay any price for it.

There is not a video screen big enough for these two Rock Queens to be on.

I’ve always loved this track but only recently heard the Buckingham Nicks demo. It’s amazing what Stevie can do w her voice, singing the lower part and Sheryl taking the high harmony. Lovely.

@clemflynn7067

Listen to Marilyn Martin’s (sometimes bk up singer for Stevie) version from the movie “Streets of Fire.” Stevie does heavy backup on it. It’s my 2nd favorite after this version (album edit - this version is radio/video edit, & is cut to short.)

@trevoratchison3904

She has the most incredible voice of any singer
