35 years ago i started learning guitar. I was into metal like Slayer, Metallica and so forth. 1 day a friend brought by the El Mocambo video. I saw the title and said "Stevie Ray Vaughan??? you know i hate country" i thought it was country because of the name and the hat SRV was wearing. He said just watch 1 song and we can do something else. Well 1 song turned into me watching the whole thing over and over again. I had no idea the guitar could sound like that. From that day forth i stopped trying to play metal and dove right into the blues and never looked back.

odudi Metal is alright, but ain't nothing like some good ol' blues.

Stevie ray is the best there ever will be but ain't nothing wrong with metal friend. Personally I play metal but I like to play it the way stevie would play it if he were playing it, with the attitude and ridiculous bends and hard picking. And even letting out a little stevie when it's solo time.

odudi same route as me pal, back in -84 all I wanted to learn when I started was Metallica /slayer etc,now I'm just playing the blues,SRV Rory Gallagher and those heavy hitters, gone from a V/SG/LP to just playing an old Japanese strat from -79, couldn't be happier buddy
Keep that blues dirty brother

Wise choice. I like metal, but the blues is the best form of music ever played.

Metallica was the Band that inspired me to play, they still do, but when I discovered Stevie Ray Vaughan when I was 18, two year's into my guitar lessons, I had to learn some of his song's to. As a musician, I take inspiration and influence from anything that's ever driven me to constantly be better. My riffs are old school Thrash Metal, but my Leads, are all Blues Influenced. Stevie made me want to play Bluesy Leads, instead of Shredding Metal Leads. He inspired me to change the dynamics of how Lead Guitar is typically played in Metal today. Naturally it's my own Bluesy Style, but it was inspired by Stevie Ray Vaughan. I'm now 34, and working on my first record, and I couldn't be happier. Later man.

I’ve always noticed that no matter how long they’ve played together, Tommy is always amazed by Stevie’s playing. He watches him like a proud papa.

I've always noticed that, while the performance of "Voodoo child", at thos same show, he's just completely amazed lol

"He had enough cocaine in his system to kill a horse during the show. Me and Chris were watching him like a hawk, we were afraid he'd lose it."
Quote from Tommy Shannon regarding this show.
