Stevie Ray Vaughan tragically died on August 27, 1990 in a helicopter accident, having taken the seat that his brother Jimmie Vaughan or some have reported Eric Clapton would have been sitting in. He had a wide range of influences, most notably Lonnie Mack, Albert King, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton & Jimi Hendrix.
Only a handful of blues guitarists have had such an impact on the blues genre.
I'm Leaving You

I'm leavin' you woman....before i commit a crime
You the evilest woman....i think ever crossed my mind
You put poison in my coffee....instead of milk or cream
You poison my coffee....in with that milk and cream
You're the meanest woman....i think i've most ever seen
You mix my drink....with a can of red devil lye
Then you sit right down....watchin' me....hopin' i might die
You better be watchin' me baby....baby it was not my time
You better be watchin' me baby....just might be your time
The lyrics to Stevie Ray Vaughan's "I'm Leaving You" are about a man who realizes how evil his woman is and decides to leave her before he commits a crime. He believes that she is the evilest woman he has ever met and accuses her of putting poison in his coffee instead of milk or cream. The woman is so evil that she mixes a can of red devil lye in his drink and hopes he will die. The man warns her to be careful because she might end up being the one who dies.
The song is a powerful expression of the destructive nature of relationships gone sour. The man is in danger of committing a crime because of his frustration and anger towards the woman. He realizes that he needs to get away from her before he does something he will regret.
One interesting thing about the song is that it was originally recorded by blues musician James Cotton in 1967. Stevie Ray Vaughan's version was released in 1985 on his album "Soul to Soul". Another interesting fact is that the song was written by blues musician Willie Dixon, who is known for his many contributions to the blues genre.
