The band was joined in 1981 by bass player Tommy Shannon & 1985 by keyboardist Reese Wynans.

Stevie Ray Vaughan tragically died on August 27, 1990 in a helicopter accident, having taken the seat that his brother Jimmie Vaughan or some have reported Eric Clapton would have been sitting in. He had a wide range of influences, most notably Lonnie Mack, Albert King, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton & Jimi Hendrix.

Only a handful of blues guitarists have had such an impact on the blues genre.

I worked at Mars Music in Dallas and SRV had just died. My buddy Chris in the warehouse said Jack you like blues would you like to see SRV's Guitar. I said sure. I opened the case and it was this Hamilton strat that was in this video. I took it out of the case and played it for 15 minutes. Respectfully wiped it down . closed the case and the next day it was shipped to Billy Gibbons in Houston. For years I wondered about that guitar until I saw this video. I was like Man! @@MrPorsche91730 And when you look at the early Stevie Ray Vaughan's styling and even the way he positioned his guitar higher, he was pretty much copying his brother at the time.
Only later he changed his style of clothes, the gauge of the strings and pretty much the entire approach to the way he played guitar.

While Hendrix is usually mentioned as a biggest influence on Stevie's style of playing, it is endearing to see how much of an influence his big brother had on him to get him on that path in the first place.

And Jimmy Vaughan is certainly a great player in his own right.

I met ol Stevie when I worked at the DFW airport. I was a pre-board screener, and he and his band came through. Soft spoken and one cool dude. He asked if he could send his guitar through the x-ray, I said ok, I sent it through and he and his band members laughed at the x-ray. Saw SRV twice lil 6-9000 seat place called star plaza in Merrillville. My older brother was a bouncer at Mickey Gillies in the early 80s and Stevie came playing. The Chitlin circuit knew I loved Hendrix and said this guy is the truth. My friend was an usher there in high school, and he got us to meet Stevie Ray both times. He spent 45 minutes talking to us he was a man’s man for talking that long. He’s a legend for that wicked guitar he played. Thank you

I have loved lots of Great music over the last 44 years and Texas Flood and Couldn’t Stand the Weather remain 2 of my favorite albums. His Texas Flood tour was one of my first concerts and also remains as one of the most amazing live performances I have been lucky enough to attend.God Bless you Stevie Ray Vaughan, rest in peace. I grew up listening to Stevie Ray and now have a 15 year old daughter who loves listening to him too. Not just him but many rock legends I find my daughter singing along with. She’s gone far back in music history to stuff from Simon and Garfunkel Jim Croce Gordon lightfoot just to name a few

On this day in 1990, Stevie Ray Vaughan tragically passed away at the age of 35. In spectacular fashion, his final performance included an encore jam with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and Jimmie Vaughan at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin. A few hours later, his helicopter crashed into the side of a ski slope while en route to Chicago. The red Fender Stratocaster that SRV lent to Buddy Guy that night still hangs on the wall of his Chicago blues club (Legends) to pay tribute to his fallen friend. Rest in peace, brother.

i love this video and song. i worked with a guy that worshipped him. He was also an amazing guitar player. He got S.R.V to sign his guitar as we both worked at an arena. He then played the guitar and the signature came off as he sweated so much. He could play but he wasn't the shiniest bolt in the bucket.

This has been my favorite Stevie song since it came out ( I think I was 15 or 16 ) I'd listen to over and over. When he died, it killed me. My dad came home from work and found me just ballin my eyes out. He asked what my problem was, and I told him Stevie died it was a traumatic event in my life 2nd to Bowie dying.

As a young teenager, I had heard "Love Struck Baby" and "Pride and Joy" on the radio; those were from his debut. This second record was the first time I saw the videos - this video was huge, and undoubtedly helped sales. It was funny AND cool - that hat covering his eyes while he remorselessly plays! Never forgot it. I've been going back to his studio stuff and the old rock videos, and they're great. All the reactors are doing the live stuff, but this video needs some love (as does the song).

I think this was sort of like his past marriage but his wife was beautiful. He was not sober yet. Both of them were not mature yet. I don’t put down his marriage. Just relating a little bit to this video of their rocky marriage but they really loved each other.

I saw him with Double Trouble in Montreal, right after he left David Bowie’s Serious Moonlight Tour, over a wage dispute
I remember being blown away by his tone then looking for a second guitarist on stage or in the wings and then realizing that there wasn't a second guitarist.
