Wonder's single "Fingertips" was a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963, at the age of 13, making him the youngest artist ever to top the chart. Wonder's critical success was at its peak in the 1970s. His "classic period" began in 1972 with the releases of Music of My Mind and Talking Book, the latter featuring "Superstition", which is one of the most distinctive and famous examples of the sound of the Hohner Clavinet keyboard. His works Innervisions (1973), Fulfillingness' First Finale (1974) and Songs in the Key of Life (1976) all won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, making him the tied-record holder for the most Album of the Year wins, with three. He is also the only artist to have won the award with three consecutive album releases. Wonder began his "commercial period" in the 1980s; he achieved his biggest hits and highest level of fame, had increased album sales, charity participation, high-profile collaborations (including Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson), political impact, and television appearances. Wonder has continued to remain active in music and political causes.
Wonder is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with sales of over 100 million records worldwide. He has won 25 Grammy Awards (the most by a solo artist) and one Academy Award (Best Original Song, for the 1984 film The Woman in Red). Wonder has been inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame. He is also noted for his work as an activist for political causes, including his 1980 campaign to make Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday a federal holiday in the U.S. In 2009, he was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace, and in 2014, he was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Wonder was born Stevland Hardaway Judkins in Saginaw, Michigan, on May 13, 1950, the third of five children born to Lula Mae Hardaway, and the second of Hardaway's two children with Calvin Judkins. He was born six weeks premature which, along with the oxygen-rich atmosphere in the hospital incubator, resulted in retinopathy of prematurity, a condition in which the growth of the eyes is aborted and causes the retinas to detach, so he became blind.
You Met Your Match
Stevie Wonder Lyrics

Hey, you were good at playing the fox girl
When I was good you threw me a bone
But I ain't playing hot for nobody
Girl just you wait 'til I get you home
I'll show you the way to love somebody
'Cause my love light's burning
My whole life's yearning for you
Hey baby, you played around with Jimmy and Freddie
You tried to make me look like a fool
But I took care of Cindy and Susie
Just to show you I can be twice as cool, baby
If you want to learn how to love me
I'll teach you in my own private school
'Cause my love love light's burning
My whole life's yearning for you
(You met your match)
When you play with my affection
(You met your match)
When you tried to make me walk the line
(You met your match)
When you decided you would hurt me
That's when your grape fell from the vine, vine, vine, vine (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Your mama told me that I better be mellow
She said you're just a baby, maybe too green
I told her Jimmy, Freddie, Teddy and Victor
They know better
Mama shake off that dream
Hey, I told her that you were really cooking
My love is burning for a turn at the steam
Hey, 'cause
My love light's burning
My whole life's yearning for you
Hey, baby, baby
(You met your match)
When you told me that you loved me
(You met your match)
When you told me that you wouldn't let go
(You met your match)
You met your match
You met your match
You met your match
You met your match
You met your match, baby
Hey, get down with it
(You met your match)
You met your match
You met your match
You met your match
You met your match
You met your match, baby
Hey, yeah, yeah, baby
The lyrics of Stevie Wonder's "You Met Your Match" are the voice of a frustrated lover who has been hurt and betrayed. The song is about a woman who played games with the singer, teased him, neglected him and tried to make him look like a fool in front of others. He's angry and tired of playing her games. He tells her that she met her match when she played with his affection. The singer's love light is burning, and his whole life is yearning for her, but he's not going to be a fool anymore.
The lyrics also show that the singer is confident in his ability to find love elsewhere. He tells the woman that he took care of Cindy and Susie just to show her that he can be twice as cool. He also promises to show her the way to love somebody like she's never been shown before but in his own private school.
Overall, "You Met Your Match" is a song about standing up for oneself and demanding respect and love in a relationship. It is also about the power dynamics at play in a relationship and the importance of mutual respect and honesty.

Hey you were good at playing the fox girl
You were skilled at being deceptive and elusive
When I was good you threw me a bone
You rewarded me when I was successful
But I ain't playing hot for nobody
I won't put on an act for anyone
Girl just you wait 'til I get you home
I'll show you my true feelings in private
I'll show you the way to love somebody
I'll teach you how to truly love someone
Like you've never ever been shown before
In a way that's completely new to you
Cause my love light's burning
My passion for you is intense
My whole life's yearning for you
I've been longing for you my whole life
Hey baby you were playing the part with Jimmy and Freddie
You were pretending when you were with other guys
You tried to make me look like a fool
You attempted to embarrass me
But I took care of Cindy and Susie
I was able to handle other women
Just to show you I can be twice as cool baby
To prove that I'm even better than you thought
If you want to learn how to love me
I'll teach you how to truly love me
I'll teach you in my own private school
I'll show you in a private setting

That's when your grape fell off the vine
That's when your plan failed
Your mama told me that I better be mellow
Your mother warned me to stay calm
She said you're just a baby maybe too green
She said you might not be experienced enough
I told her Jimmy, Freddie, Teddy and Victor
I told her about the other guys you were with
They know better
They are more experienced than you
Mama shake off that dream
Don't be naive, wake up
I told her that you were really cooking
I informed her that you were up to something
My love is burning for a turn at the steam
My passion is growing stronger
When you told me you loved me
When you professed your love for me
When you told me that you wouldn't let go
When you promised to stick around
