I think I could hang with Jon, he seem like a straight up dude. What he did for the first responders was epic.

@edawgrules

I always respected that Jon called out hypocrisy no matter where he saw it.

@CannonFodder873

Jon Stewart is the ONLY celebrity I would ever consider for public office, considering he actually had to "shame" current leadership into providing funding to 9-11 first responders' groups. He actually has considerable intelligence as opposed to the current illiterate buffoon running the country.

Who'd have thought a comedian could have insight and ideas on proper governance ?

...then again, who thought the governance in the White House would be THIS big a "joke" ?

@waynefeller8824

I always respected his willingness to call out either party.

I wish this interview had been longer. I love listening to Jon.

@CydeFX

Boy, I sure do miss Jon Stewart being on every day. Thank f**king God for John Oliver, at least.

@jessdeeschulthz2427

Sigh- John Stewart held up a mirror to both Dems and reps hypocrisy. I miss his voice.

I think Jon consistently misunderstood his level of impact on society with the Daily Show. Yes, the show rarely made any tangible changes on a legislative or governmental level, but what it DID do was help maintain the Overton Window and keep it leaning towards progressive ideals by making them appear reasonable while exposing how wild and hypocritical the far right can be, and did so in a nuanced and entertaining fashion. I don't think it's a coincidence that the alt-right and Trump found significant success after Jon left the scene, as social media and YouTube rapidly filled the vacuum he left behind.

At the same time, I can see how he'd be dissatisfied with merely keeping the Overton Window in a holding pattern, rather than creating substantial change. His departure coincided with independent media flourishing, which ultimately made for a more democratic (and chaotic) field of discussion. This expansive discussion often railed against the establishment, and that allowed a political neophyte like Trump to take office and embolden nationalists and libertarians; together they tried to forcibly drag the Overton Window far to the right. Ironically, Trump's relentless gaffes and scandals (any one of which would normally end careers) caused political fatigue to set in, allowing Trump and his base to normalize his insanity as non-political folks were sick of hearing about him. However, that recklessness made him vulnerable to a series of domestic and global crises, breaking Trump's grip on the Window and causing it to snap back like a rubber band, whip-lashing farther to the left than it had in decades. Perhaps this chaotic struggle over the Overton Window was what Jon wanted?

@LionheartLivin

Damn that's a GREAT analysis, thank you for that Anthony!!!;)

@Cludensyo

Nah bro he was just tired. Look at one of his bits days before he was leaving and look at him now.
