Sticks gained prominence in the Dutch hiphop scene as one of the MCs in the legendary Opgezwolle (2001-2007). Following the demise of Opgezwolle he has released albums in many different constellations with Kubus, Rico, A.R.T. and other associates from the Zwolle scene.
He has also released solo material credited to Sticks alone, notably a string of stand-alone singles in 2020, followed by the album STICKmatic (2020). Often regarded as a solo album (and scrobbled as such) was 2020's Het mooiste komt nu, but this album was formally credited to Kubus & Sticks. January 2023 saw the release of another solo album proper, Alles Over Hoop.

The lyrics to Sticks's song Trip paint a picture of being in a dreamlike state, disconnected from reality and finding solace in the beauty of nature. The opening lines make reference to the Sesame Street characters, Bert and Ernie, and compare the feeling of flying to that of Paul McCartney, who famously wrote the song "Blackbird" based on a dream he had. The line "Je hele band is onder hun, zodra je vleugels krijgt lijk je maandverband" roughly translates to "Your whole band is under them, once you have wings you look like a sanitary pad." This line appears to be a play on words, but its meaning is unclear.
