Our Town
Sticky Fingers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Caught between the bed sheets
I'm clinging on for my life
And now I know I can't sleep
I'mma laugh so much I cry
I stepped into the night
I'm not coming back no time soon
Gimme something to feel, gimme something to hold
Don't be standing on the sidelines
When we show up
Come along lets live together this is our town

We are just souls roaming
But you're not alone
Sinking my staggered heart
I was only trying to get home
I was only trying to get home

I lost a friend but more than that
She lost her head and it brought me back
Ratta tat tat like that in the middle of the night
The ways [rays?] of the mirror and the shining gold
The words take the mirror and they go back home
Ratta tat tat like that in the early morning light

But how are you supposed feel when you got none, no
How could you be so cold?
Gimme something to feel, gimme something to hold

Don't be standing on the sidelines
When we show up
Come along lets live together this is our town

We are just souls roaming
But you're not alone
Sinking my staggered heart
I was only trying to get home
I was only trying to get home

Please, please, please
Just live for the day

And take my praise
They can never say you don't try

Overall Meaning

The song Our Town by Sticky Fingers is an atmospheric and emotion-filled track that explores various themes, including the search for meaning and connection amidst the chaos of life. The opening lines set the scene for the song, with the singer caught between the bedsheets, desperate for something to hold onto. The sense of urgency and restlessness is palpable throughout the song, as the singer reflects on lost friendships, missed opportunities, and the impermanence of life.

As he steps out into the night, the singer seems to be seeking an escape from the mundane and the familiar. He wants to feel alive and connected, to laugh and cry and experience the full range of human emotions. The chorus of the song serves as an invitation to the listener to join him on this journey of discovery, to live and love and embrace the chaos of life together, as a community.

The middle section of the song is particularly haunting, as the singer reflects on a lost friend, and the darkness that can sometimes consume us when we feel alone and disconnected. The lyrics here are fragmented and chaotic, echoing the confusion and pain of loss. But even here, there is a glimmer of hope, as the singer implores us to live for the day and take his praise, no matter what life throws our way.

Overall, Our Town is a powerful and thought-provoking song, filled with raw emotion and vivid imagery. It speaks to the human experience in a way that is both universal and deeply personal, inviting us to embrace the chaos and mystery of life, and to find meaning and connection in the midst of it all.

This song will forever be my favourite song. I don’t say that lightly but I can’t think of a song that will top the feeling and pure joy I get while listening to this. I have easily listened to this song over a thousand times and still become infatuated by this song, not only by its very homely structure, or it’s use of an amazing maj7 chord prog in the chorus, or the bittersweet lyrics, or the perfect solo to finish it off or any of the million other reasons conceptually why this song is beautiful; but their ability to relate the happiness and mateship experienced within Australia with the music video and song combined is insane. My life won’t be complete if I don’t see this song live, missed out on it in Christchurch this year and am resenting not seeing it at home in Sydney. This is the best song I have ever heard and I don’t believe anything will top it. Good work boys.

Hey Wil Kelly, I also very much enjoyed listening to this song. It reminds me of afternoons turning to evening at the local pub. A new scene perhaps, definitely new faces, nevertheless possibilities manifold in every interaction, perhaps, that explains why Australian range so widely on the spectrum of being considerate

This is going to be right up there with Land of Pleasure. You can literally hear how much they've grown in their music with their sense of melody and structure. Fucking god bless this band.

This song and video are so inherently tied to their sense of home, yet the nostalgia it evokes transports me to summer days, cruising up the pacific highway toward the beach. Your music is something else lads. It's like a modern day cold chisel in how authentic and relatable it is. Incredible stuff!
