Still Corners Lyrics

Crossed, in you
Twice, every word
Broke in two
What′s in the way?
Us falling
What is the name?

The opening lines in Still Corners' song Velveteen are suggestive of broken trust and communication between two individuals. The initial confidence and strength of their relationship has been ruptured, and somehow, they find themselves unable to bridge the gap. The repetition of "once" and "twice" conveys a sense of finality in the whole episode, suggesting that all hope of reconciliation may have evaporated. The singer then laments the obstacles obstructing their union, yearning for an opening to appear.
As the song progresses, it becomes clear that there is a depth of emotion underlying the whole piece. The repetition of "Velveteen" heightens the emotional fervor of the song, drawing the listener in. The reference to "Velveteen" could be interpreted as an allusion to the losses and gains of life. There is always some pain when losing something, a loved one, for example, but gain can also come from loss. When we have experienced the depths of sorrow, even the little pleasures of life hold greater value. This is depicted in the song when the singer continues to call out for her partner, asking what name she should call out.
In conclusion, the lyrics of Velveteen depict a relationship that has been rent asunder by the complexities of life. The song displays the yearning of the singer to reconnect with her partner and shed the barriers that have been built between them.
