The band's name is old German and means "Stillest Hour" or "Calmest Hour" and traces back to a quote by Friedrich Nietzsche, in which he refers to his deepest and calmest (and at the same time his most terrible) moments as the „Stillest Hour"...
The music of Stillste Stund has often been described as versatile, complex and progressive with many breaks, but on the other side it also has a lot of catchy elements. Stylistically, it might be classified best as Dark Wave mixed to Electro-Gothic with industrial and neo-classical influences as well as chamber music. The music combines electronic and acoustic elements with dark, music score-like atmospherical sounds, supported by expressive male and female vocals. The mood often swings from one extreme to another, sometimes melancholy, sometimes brutal, but always with a strong and intense impact.

Stillste Stund Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴

The song "Alice" by Stillste Stund tells the story of Alice who hears a voice calling her name in the night. She gets up and wanders through her dark house until she finds herself in front of an impressive mirror with a huge, scratched frame that appears to be reaching up towards her like old, knobby fingers. In the moonlight, its decorations seem to be holding on to the edges of the mirror. When she looks into the mirror, she sees a pale figure staring back at her, which terrifies her. She tries to turn away and run, but she is paralyzed and unable to move. She feels like she is in a nightmare, but she can't wake up.
The voice of the figure in the mirror persuades Alice to dance with him in the world of the mirror until the curtain falls. The figure promises her a world without shadows where there is only light. But as she spins around and around, Alice begins to realize that the mirror world is not as beautiful as it seems. She tries to break free, but the figure's voice continues to lure her deeper into the mirror, until it finally breaks.
Overall, the song portrays the seduction of a dark and twisted mirror world and the need to escape its grasps. The lyrics describe Alice's fear and helplessness as she becomes an unwilling participant in this otherworldly dance.

Actually, Alice should have been asleep long ago, but this night she believed she could hear a voice call her name. So, she got up and walked barefoot through the dark house... She found herself in front of a remarkable mirror, with a huge, battered frame that rose impressively in front of her. In the moon light, it's ornaments reminded her of old gnarled fingers, which seemed to cling to the mirror's edges.
