Shape Of My Heart
Sting Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn't play for the money he wins
He don't play for respect

He deals the cards to find the answer
The sacred geometry of chance
The hidden law of a probable outcome
The numbers lead a dance

I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

He may play the jack of diamonds
He may lay the queen of spades
He may conceal a king in his hand
While the memory of it fades

I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
That's not the shape
The shape of my heart

If I told her that I loved you
You'd maybe think there's something wrong
I'm not a man of too many faces
The mask I wear is one

But those who speak know nothing
And find out to their cost
Like those who curse their luck in too many places
And those who fear are lost

I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
That's not the shape of my heart

That's not the shape
The shape of my heart

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sting's "Shape of My Heart" tell the tale of a man who deals cards, not for the game itself, but as a way to find meaning and patterns in life. He sees the cards as a form of meditation, as he uses them to discover the "sacred geometry of chance" and the hidden laws that govern life. The cards are not just symbols for him, but a path to discovery.

Sting introduces the concept of the cards being a metaphor for life by stating that the cards dealt are not just random, but a way of discovering the world around us. He sees the cards as representing different things, with spades representing the swords of a soldier, clubs being weapons of war, and diamonds representing wealth. But, as he notes, none of these represent the true shape of his heart.

As the song continues, Sting describes the man dealing the cards as not being one of many faces, but rather someone who wears a mask. The irony is that those who speak the most, in actuality, know the least about the real meaning of the cards. They are like those who curse their luck in life, and as a result, they fail to understand the true shape of their own hearts.

@@dorianagrayportraits9180 BIBLE calls us all to be real, sober minded souls, who live holy lives on earth.

Each human life on earth:

- BORN AGAIN and GO AND SIN NO MORE

Bible calls us to give out RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT, no to keep our mouth shut and support everything with blind eyes and deaf ears.

See no evil, speak no evil and hear no evil – that old saying, it belongs to masons, am I right again? The vow of silence of theirs.
