Stand By Me
Sting & Lady Gaga Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Young teacher, the subject
Of schoolgirl fantasy
She wants him so badly
Knows what she wants to be
Inside her there's longing
This girl's an open page
Book marking - she's so close now
This girl is half his age

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

Her friends are so jealous
You know how bad girls get
Sometimes it's not so easy
To be the teacher's pet
Temptation, frustration
So bad it makes him cry
Wet bus stop, she's waiting
His car is warm and dry

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

Loose talk in the classroom
To hurt they try and try
Strong words in the staffroom
The accusations fly
It's no use, he sees her
He starts to shake and cough
Just like the old man in
That book by Nabakov

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Sting & Lady Gaga's song Stand By Me seem to be a fictitious story of a young female student who is infatuated with her male teacher, who is a young teacher and the subject of her schoolgirl fantasies. She knows what she wants to be, so her longing is apparent. Her desire for the young teacher is so strong that he is constantly aware of her presence, and it makes him uneasy. He asks her to stop standing so close to him several times throughout the song because he is afraid of the consequences that may come from their growing relationship. The teacher's peers are beginning to suspect their relationship, leading to rumors and accusations in the staffroom.

The song ends with the teacher trying in vain to distance himself from the young student who is half his age. It may be interpreted as a cautionary tale about the perils of teacher-student relationships that can be easily misconstrued. Some critics suggest that the song is inspired by Vladimir Nabokov's novel "Lolita," which tells the story of a young girl's sexual relationship with a middle-aged man. The lyrics are emotional and evoke a range of feelings, including nostalgia, fear, and longing, making it a powerful and memorable song about a complicated subject matter.

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon
Is the only
Light we'll see

No, I won't
Be afraid
No, I won't
Be afraid
Just as long
As you stand
Stand by me

And darling, darling, stand by me
Oh, now, now, stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountain
Should crumble to the sea

I won't cry
I won't cry
No, I won't shed a tear
Just as long
As you stand
Stand by me

And darling, darling stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me, yeah

Whenever you're in trouble
Won't you stand by me?
Oh, now, now, stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me

Darling, darling, stand by me
Stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me

I love how Lady Gaga sing this song... She is very talented and one of a kind singer. I cried when Michael Jackson died knowing how lucky those people who live in his time and had witnessed all of his God given talents, without thinking I have Lady Gaga of my own time. Indeed, I'll have this story to tell my children.

Lady Gaga’s voice is fricking amazing

@sproing000

It is. But if only she could cut all the BS out and stand like a real singer like Sting. She is too over her head. Sting is light years away from her not only by his performance but also as a person. He does not need any motorcycles, feathers or anything around him to show his quality. No need to show off. He is just good. Kind of tired of fake people.

@chriswastaken420
