Pigeon
Stone Gossard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There goes my love, there goes her heart
And that's not the last of it, or the worst part
There go my eves, down my downspout
There goes my car, and my house
Cause I'm out of here
Cause I'm out
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
There goes the pop, there goes my ears
And I've been around so long, just not here
There goes the wings, of my grey dove
There goes the world, I've been of
Cause I'm out of here
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
It's not the way that it seems
But yeah I know that I like it
Inside this mixed up dream
Yeah I know that I like it
Knock off the shirt, knock off the gloves
Knock off the price, of my love
Knock off this deer, in my headlights
Knock off my seed, and my wife
Cause I'm out of here
Cause I'm out
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping

I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Stone Gossard's song "Pigeon" seem to be about a man who is leaving his significant other and seemingly his entire life behind. He talks about how he's lost everything - his love, his house, his car - and how he's not done sleeping around. The chorus is repeated several times throughout the song, emphasizing his desire to continue being promiscuous.

The lyrics also touch on the idea of feeling trapped or stuck in one place. The line "There goes the world, I've been of" could be interpreted as feeling like he's been a part of the same small world and wants to break free. He also mentions wings, which could symbolize the ability to fly away and find something new.

The last verse includes lines about knocking things off, potentially meaning that he wants to remove anything that ties him down or reminds him of his old life - "knock off the price of my love", "knock off this deer in my headlights", etc. The repetition of "I'm not through sleeping around" at the end seems to indicate that his desire for sexual freedom is a major driving force in his decision to leave.

Overall, the lyrics to "Pigeon" describe a complicated and potentially destructive situation, with a focus on themes of loss, escape, and reckless behavior.

Interstellar Overdrive and Pigeon are nothing alike. The two songs don't share a single chord between them and they aren't in the same key. Also Interstellar is a descending chord progression, Pigeon is a riff based around two chords. The only thing they have in common is distortion, which about 90% of rock songs have.

Tiene un cierto aire a Frank black, salvando las distancias, buena canción de un álbum simplemente aceptable, nada más, (5/10)

If nobody has noticed the fact this sounds nigh identical to "If Only" by qotsa (from an album that was released on Stone's label) I'm shocked. Great song though!!
