Mostly happy
On a green autumn day
I'm walking lazy
Barely moving
Settle out and fade away
Than a journey with no end
I just wanna lose it all
And find myself again
I'm on my own
I'm on my own
I don't need a conscience
To tell me how I feel
I don't need these weary eyes
To focus on what to conceal
I don't need anybody
To tell me who I am
Blame it on a broken heart
I'm falling apart again
The lyrics of Stone Sour’s song “The Travelers” speak of life and the weariness associated with it. The first verse mentions the singer’s contentment with their life, mostly, on an autumn day. They describe themselves as walking lazily, barely moving, wanting to settle out and fade away. Life, to them, seems to be more than just a journey, but it’s not quite clear what that “something more” is. They then express their desire to lose everything and find themselves again, but it’s unclear what they are trying to escape from or what they hope to discover.
The second verse talks about self-reliance as the singer claims that they don’t need a conscience or tired eyes to discern what needs to be hidden or focus on. The singer continues, saying they don’t need anyone to define them, which could suggest a kind of rebellious streak against societal pressures. The song concludes with the admission that a broken heart is the cause of their emotional fragmentation and unraveling. Throughout the song, there is a sense of conflict and desperation that is punctuated by an ambivalent desire to be seen and to be left alone.
Overall, “The Travelers” lyrics reflect a sense of disillusionment and a yearning for something that is yet to be discovered. The theme of finding oneself after losing everything suggests a search for identity and meaning. The song could serve as a reminder of the importance of introspection and self-discovery in the journey of life, even if it’s a messy process.
