Days of the Week
Stone Temple Pilots Lyrics

Monday, back from the dead
I'm letting it go, back for another one
Tuesday, shoot me in the head
I'm takin' it back, takin' it back
I'll take it back
Wednesday, she's lookin' for a friend
She'll get what she wants
Can't seem to get enough
Thursday, it's more than I can stand
I'm holdin' her down, holdin' her down
She's down again

I gotta find a way to find her
Where could she be?
Four days of the week
She thinks I'm the enemy

One day, left me for dead
Woke up on the floor, time for another one
Two days, she's leavin' me again
Can't take it no more
Out through the open door
Three days, she's found herself a friend
She got what she wants
Still never get enough
Four days, she's back with me again
She's pullin' me down, pullin' me down
I'm down again

I gotta find a way to find her
Where could she be?
Four days of the week
She thinks I'm the enemy

Monday's gone
Tuesday's fadin'
Wednesday's gone
Thursday's all but wasted now

Monday, back from the dead
I'm letting it go, back for another one
Tuesday, shoot me in the head
I'm takin' it back, takin' it back
I'll take it back

I gotta find a way to find her
Where could she be? (Where could she be?)
Four days of the week

She thinks I'm the enemy
Thinks I'm the enemy

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Stone Temple Pilots’ “Days of the Week” describe a tumultuous relationship between the singer and their partner over the course of a week. The song is presented in a narrative format, with each verse corresponding to a day of the week. The singer begins on Monday feeling “back from the dead” but is already “letting it go” and looking for “another one” to pursue. Tuesday sees the singer feeling defeated and wishing to be put out of their misery, though they ultimately decide to “take it back” instead. By Wednesday, the partner is seeking out a new friend and getting “what she wants” without ever seeming to be satisfied. Thursday brings the singer’s realization that the relationship has become too much for them to handle, as they find themselves “holding her down” while she is “down again.”

As the relationship deteriorates, the singer becomes increasingly desperate to find a solution on Friday. Despite their best efforts, the partner seems to see them as an “enemy” and leaves them “for dead” on Saturday. By Sunday, the partner has moved on and is “back with me again,” dragging the singer “down” once more. The final chorus repeats the sentiment of the singer’s frustration and confusion, with the partner continuing to see them as an enemy and the week ending on a dismal note.

Overall, “Days of the Week” portrays a relationship with a clear power imbalance and a sense of hopelessness. The singer’s inability to understand their partner’s motivations or satisfy their needs creates a cycle of pain that consumes the entire week. The refrain of “Where could she be?” suggests a fear of abandonment or betrayal, and the final line leaves the singer and the listener alike with a feeling of unease.

Summer Inspiration 2021 ~ You got the limits of how I should feel
Can’t take back tomorrow
It’s a little too late for me
Hang on to yesterday if you want
But days are black
Carries on and on
You left the game a long time ago
Left the plan
Thought you should know
You got the limits of how I should feel
But days are black
Carries on and on for me
If I should win this card in hand
I promise to never go back
That was the plan
If I begged for one more show
Brings me to my knees
One more time
One more go
You got the limits of how I should feel
Can’t take back tomorrow
It’s a little too late for me
Hang on to yesterday if you want
But days are black
Carries on and on
Carries on and on for me
One more time
One more go
That was the plan
It carries on and on for me
Lost the card in hand
Can’t go back to reality
Stuck in this wasted land
Carries on and on for me ~ Darri Scottch

One of their most underrated and personal favorite songs in their catalog.

@Big_C_4205

Amazing. Every word you said in that sentence was right.

@jpc9690

Never mind this one song although I do agree with you, but this whole is underrated. I still don’t understand why it didn’t sell well, no 4 at least went platinum once but this album only cracked 5x gold

@slimmmshaney5695

@JPC you'd think stp would be automatic for platinum after releasing core and purple.. But I guess everyone else is just missing out on this great album, they're loss aha

@jpc9690

SlimmmShaney ya damn right

@heloisasantosoliveira5017

Stone Temple Pilots were one of the few bands to get music videos right. They should be praised for how creative they could be with them.

@hunterwest54

I think we've all realized how every single song these guys released is pure magic... RIP

I remember people hating this album so much. I loved it. It was so personal and Scott was at his best.
