Meatplow
Stone Temple Pilots Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Fine place for a day full of breakdowns
Takes more than a meltdown to show us how
Throw a tack on the road stop the meat plow
Got a bullet but it ain't mine

They got these pictures of everything
To break us down, yeah, to break me down
They make us hate and we make it bleed

But I got a lover and she shows me how
To understand, yeah, to understand
I got a brother and, well, he shows me how
To make amends, yeah, to make amends with it

Take a break from the mousetrap we call home
Takes more than a message to make me smile
I can feel when she kisses me sleeping
But not when the news is on

They got these pictures of everything
To break us down, yeah, to break me down
They make us hate and we make it bleed

But I got a lover and she shows me how
To understand, yeah, to understand
I got a brother and, well, he shows me how
To make amends, yeah, to make amends with it

They got these pictures of everything
To break us down, yeah, to break us down
They make us hate and we make it bleed

But I got a lover and she shows me how
To understand, yeah, to understand

I got a brother and, yeah, he shows me how
To make amends, yeah, to make amends with it

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Stone Temple Pilots' song "Meatplow" are both ambiguous and provocative. The song's meaning is enigmatic, but it seems to suggest a lack of control or direction in the singer's life. The opening line of the song, "Down way down on a Sunday," sets the contemplation and brooding mood of the song. The singer is waiting for something to happen, unsure of what it is, but believes it will be significant. As he watches the world around him, he feels detached from it, as if he is watching everything through a lens. He imagines himself flying away from his troubles as he ponders something that haunts him. This desire to escape his problems is further reinforced in the lines, "I wanna go far away" and "I'll find another man and another in a sty."

The line, "You got me going, yeah, you got me going," is a reference to the singer's relationship with someone who is leading him on. This person is causing him to feel both pleasure and pain simultaneously, leaving him feeling dizzy and unsure of where he fits in. The lines, "I got these pictures of everything/And I don't know, yeah, but I don't know," express the singer's feelings of confusion and disorientation. The song ends with the singer's voice repeating, "You'll find another and another that you'll find, yeah," as if to detach himself from the situation and the person causing his emotional turmoil.
