Sex y violence
Stone Temple Pilots Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I used to love you now I don't care
Now I turn around, you're everywhere
So you can chew me up and spit me out
You're just the little bitch I cared about

I know you can see me
But you don't believe me
I know that you're lonely
Time will tell and time is hell

No sex or violence
No morbid silence
Forever sleeping
You won't stop breathing

You hold me captive and it's not fair
Progressed insanity is everywhere
You need to love me but you kicked me out
My head is wandering so knock me out

I keep my head alfloat I'm drowning in
The muddy water pulls me down again

I used to love me but I hate me now
I'm just a little bitch I cared about

Overall Meaning

In the song "Sex & Violence" by Stone Temple Pilots, the lyrics express a sense of betrayal and disillusionment. The singer used to love someone, but that feeling has been replaced with indifference. The person is now everywhere and has the power to hurt the singer, but they are no longer worth caring about. The singer knows that the person can see them but doesn't believe anything they say. The loneliness they feel is just a consequence of their own actions. The chorus states that there is no sex or violence anymore, no passion or aggression, just cold indifference. The singer is stuck in a cycle of self-hatred and victimhood, feeling captive to this toxic relationship. They were once in love with themselves, but the negativity of the relationship has caused them to hate themselves instead.

The underlying theme of this song seems to be about the power dynamic in abusive relationships. The singer feels trapped and powerless, but there is a hint of defiance in their lyrics. They acknowledge the situation but still refuse to give in completely. The chorus, in particular, stands out as a rejection of the usual tropes of sex and violence that are often present in songs about love and relationships. Instead, the message is that there is no passion left, just emptiness.

@bonechip01

Im really glad I found 80s and 90s music when I was 21. I really didn't care for music before that, I didn't like the 2000s bands of my childhood and teens. I watch a lot of gigs from 85 to 95 also. Thanks YouTube.
