Sour Girl
Stone Temple Pilots Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She turned away, what was she looking at?
She was a sour girl the day that she met me
Hey, what are you looking at?
She was a happy girl the day that she left me

She turned away, what was she looking at?
She was a sour girl the day that she met me
Hey, what are you looking at?
She was a happy girl the day that she left me

What would you do?
What would you do if I follow you?
What would you do? I follow

Don't turn away, what are you looking at?
He was so happy on the day that he met her
Say, what are you looking at?
I was a superman but looks are deceiving

The roller-coaster ride's a lonely one
I pay a ransom note to stop it from steaming
Hey, what are you looking at?
She was a teenage girl when she met me

What would you do?
What would you do if I follow you?
What would you do? I follow

What would you do? (What would you do?)
What would you do if I follow you?
What would you do? I follow

The girl got reasons
They all got reasons

What would you do? (What would you do?)
What would you do if I follow you?
What would you do? I follow

What would you do? (What would you do?)
What would you do if I follow you?
What would you do? I follow

Hey, what are you looking at?
She was a happy girl the day that she left me
The day that she left me, the day that she left me
She was a happy girl the day that she left me

The day that she left me, the day that she left me
She was a sour girl the day that she left me

Overall Meaning

The song "Sour Girl" by Stone Temple Pilots is about a relationship between two people that has gone sour. The girl in question is described as being happy when she met the singer, but sour when she left him. The chorus repeatedly asks "what would you do if I follow you?" suggesting that the singer is struggling with the end of the relationship and may want to try to win her back.

The lyrics also suggest that the relationship was a roller coaster ride with highs and lows, and that the girl had reasons for leaving. The singer describes himself as a "superman" but acknowledges that looks can be deceiving. The song ends with the repetition of the line "she was a happy girl the day that she left me," reinforcing the idea that the relationship was not healthy or fulfilling for either party.

Overall, "Sour Girl" is a melancholic and introspective look at a failed relationship. It grapples with themes of regret, loss, and the difficulty of moving on from a romantic attachment.

Scott states to all it was his break up and how he/ they saw her as a person after the split up and in there he indicated his depression and how he sees him self.
Scott also wrote"he was a Superman but looks are deceiving.“ This was him telling everyone he was putting up a front for EVERYONE and in his real life he is broken/ depressed.
I have a friend whom worked with him and was there when this album was created.
