Read Full Bio ↴Stone the Crows was a blues and soul influenced rock band from Glasgow.
The band was formed in 1970 after Maggie Bell was introduced to Les Harvey by his older brother, Alex Harvey. After playing together in the Kinning Park Ramblers, they rejoined in a band Power, later renamed Stone the Crows, after Led Zeppelin's manager, Peter Grant, heard them and took them on.
Original line-up:
* Maggie Bell, vocals (born Margaret Bell, 12 January 1945, in Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland.
* Les Harvey, guitar (born Leslie Harvey, in 1945, in the Gorbals, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland died 2 May 1972).
* Colin Allen, drums
* Jim Dewar, bass (born James Dewer, 12 October 1942, in Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland).
* John McGinnis, keyboards
The band's first two albums were produced by the above line-up, with Bell's vocals "reminiscent of Janis Joplin"
Second line-up:
McGinnis and Dewar left 1971, to be replaced by Ronnie Leahy and Steve Thompson. The tragic death of Les Harvey (electrocuted by a live microphone on stage at Swansea's Top Rank Suite in May 1972) almost led to the breakup of the band. After trying Peter Green, the band brought in ex-Thunderclap Newman prodigy Jimmy McCulloch as lead guitarist.
Stone the Crows broke up in June 1973. Maggie Bell recorded two albums in the early seventies, Queen of the Night and Suicide Sal and joined Rod Stewart on Every Picture Tells A Story as well as forming the band Midnight Flyer.

Watching me through the rain
But I'm lost in your memory
I can see your eyes shining for me
It makes me feel like cryin'
To know that I'm alone
Let the night pass me by
All alone when the morning comes
I can see your eyes shining for me
It makes me feel like cryin'
To know that I'm alone
Like a child I trusted you and made myself an idol
I gave you everything, I even gave my title
Waking in the morning streets, rising with the sun
Empty houses, darkened windows, searched them one by one
Ah, ah, ah, ah
Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo
In Stone The Crows's song "Faces," the singer feels lost in her memory while being watched through the rain by a face across the street. She is overwhelmed by the thought of being alone and recounts how she gave everything, including her title, to the person she trusted as a child. The singer is left with nothing but a feeling of emptiness as she wanders the morning streets, searching for something she cannot find.
The song's lyrics speak of loneliness and the inability to escape one's memories. The face across the street may represent a person or symbolize a feeling that she cannot escape from, even in the rain. The line "Like a child I trusted you and made myself an idol" shows the vulnerability and trust the singer placed in someone else. The following lines "Empty houses, darkened windows, searched them one by one" suggest a sense of desperation and hopelessness in trying to find what was lost.

Did you hear about this badman talking 'bout his rise to fame.
I met him as the curtain rose, Jim Salter was his name.
He sang his songs to buckeyed girls, his movements gettin' kinda slow.
He opened his hand and grabbed my heart with the help of cupid's bow.

Oh never again with the devil I lay, never, never, never.

With his evil touch he stole my soul.........?????
