North
Stop Motion Poetry Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Once upon a time
I tried to get you off my mind
And I was soon to find
The poem did not rhyme

And when I called your name
So quickly you came
Here you will remain
I was to blame

And as I fall asleep
You're watching over me
And when I start to cry
I know you're by my side
And if I trip and fall
You're my all in all

So here we go
Fallin' asleep
All I know
Is you're here with me
Air is thin
And you help me to breathe
Now you're here
And you'll never leave

Something I forgot
And I'll never forget again
You love me quite a lot
And I'm sorry for giving in
Once upon a time
You knocked and I let you in
Soon I would find
How generous you've been

All that's left is a stained yellow shirt
What once was perfect now we don't deserve
Either way when I leave this earth
I know that there's a spot reserved for me
Just a little North of here.

So here we go
Fallin' asleep
All I know
Is you're here with me
Air is thin
And you help me to breathe
Now you're here
And you'll never leave

Something I forgot
And I'll never forget again
You love me quite a lot
And I'm sorry for giving in
Once upon a time
You knocked and I let you in

Soon I would find
How generous you've been

Overall Meaning

The song "North" by Stop Motion Poetry is a heartfelt representation of love and loyalty. The opening lines speak of the singer's failed attempt to rid themselves of the person that is on their mind. They come to the realization that this person cannot be erased from their memories and their lives. The repeated phrase "Here you will remain, I was to blame" suggests that the singer takes responsibility for their emotional attachment to this person. It shows that they understand that they have a connection that cannot be broken, even if they wanted to.

As the song progresses, the lyrics reveal that this person is a source of comfort for the singer. They watch over them as they fall asleep, comfort them when they cry, and support them when they stumble. The phrase "You're my all in all" speaks volumes about the depth of their relationship. The singer acknowledges the love and care that this person gives them even in difficult times.

The final verse talks about the inevitability of death and how the relationship between the singer and the person who they cherish will endure beyond that. They say "Either way when I leave this earth, I know there's a spot reserved for me, Just a little North of here". This phrase indicates that the person they love will always be with them, even after death. The song "North" by Stop Motion Poetry is a tribute to undying love, loyalty and the understanding that true connections cannot be broken by distance or death.
