Eg heitar Haavard Hedde
Og er sa vein ein kar
Na vil eg bort a gifta meg
Og rydja meg en gard
Eg bur oppunder fjell
Og jenta hev eg lova
Eg sveik ho ikkje hell
Eg heitar Haavard Hedde
Og bur oppunder nut
Na vil eg bort a gifta meg
Eg bur oppunder fjell
Og jenta hev eg lova
Eg sveik ho ikkje hell
Ja, garden den er liten
Men skogen, den er god
Der heve eg to furer
Og dei skal sta I ro
Nar borna dei vert mange
Og skuldi aukar pa
Sa hugg eg ned den eine
Den andre ho lyt sta
Men nar me verte gamle
Og kvar skal ha til sitt
Sa hogg eg ned den andre
Og da er skogen kvitt
English translate: Haavard Hedde
My name us Haavard Hedde
And am so handsome a guy
Now I want to go and get married
And clear a place for a farm
I live up-under mountains
And the girl I have pledged myself to
I didn't let her down either
My name is Haavard Hedde
And live up-under peak
Now I want to go and get married
I live below mountains
And the girl I have pledged myself to
I didn't let her down either
Yes, the farm it is small
But the forest, it is good
There I have two pines
And they shall stand in peace
When the children become many
And I owe more and more money
Then I chop one down
The second can be for now
But when we become old
And each shall have it's own

Then I chop the second down
And the forest is gone

Overall Meaning

The song "Haavard Hedde" by Storm is a tale of a man named Haavard Hedde who is eager to get married and start a farm. Haavard introduces himself as handsome and determined, ready to clear a place for his future family to live. He lives up-under the mountains and he has promised himself to a girl, whom he has not let down. The repetition of the phrase "Eg bur oppunder fjell" (I live up-under mountains) emphasizes the man's attachment to the land and his readiness to make a life there.

The lyrics of the song reflect the harsh reality of life in rural Norway, where a man's worth was measured by his ability to provide for his family. Haavard is aware of the challenges that come with having a large family, and the need to clear more land to make ends meet. He has already prepared a plan for when he needs more resources, by cutting down one of the two pines he has in his forest. The lyrics show a mix of determination, practicality, and a love for the land that is characteristic of Norway's folk traditions.

Overall, the song portrays a strong and honorable man who is ready to take on the responsibilities that come with marriage and farming. His commitment to his future wife and family, and his attachment to the land, make him a symbol of Norway's rural heritage.

Storm, as well as Satyr himself, was my primary motivation to learn Norwegian (gladly here in Poland we have similiar, twisted grammar rules :-)).

A few listens still, each year, since release. Basicly all the music I need. but of course I listen to a lot more. But I could actually survive, with sane mental health with this only. So choose your albums wisely, before the end comes.

@Bodidar

I wasn't aware the end was coming any day soon? Did I miss something? I know the weather is changing a bit, and stuff like that but?? I feel really uneasy now :(
