Villemann
Storm Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Villemann gjenge for straumen å stå

Men då steig trolli upp or djupaste sjø

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Storm's song "Villemann" tell the story of a character named Villemann who embarks on a journey to attain the golden harp. He walks towards the great hall, surrounded by beautiful linden trees, eager to win the runes that the harp possesses. Villemann goes against the current, skillfully playing the harp with mastery and finesse. Birds are mesmerized by his music, and even a mythical creature called the nykkens, known to inhabit bodies of water, falls under the spell of his melodies. However, as Villemann reaches the climax of his performance, trolls emerge from the depths of the sea, causing a commotion that echoes in the mountains and resonates in the sky. In his anger and frustration, Villemann strikes the harp forcefully, extracting the power from the trolls' presence, in his relentless pursuit of attaining the runes.

It is not a lime tree. It is a linden tree. By the way in Norway many girls are being named Linde.
"Villemann gjekk seg te storan å,
Hei fagraste lindelauvi alle"

This basically means "Villeman went to the big river, hey most beautiful linden leaf all". In a more logical sense he went to the river, and met the most beautiful girl in the universe. A linden leaf.
