Stars and skies fail to tell the truth
Despite the grandeur of the universe, we cannot rely on it to provide us with answers about the meaning of life.

About this world and where it all came from
We remain mystified about the origins of the world and our place in it.

How did it start, when will it end, for what
Despite our many questions, we have yet to discover the answers to the most basic of questions.

Does this exist, what goal is there in life?
Humans struggle to decipher the meaning of our very existence.

There's no answer at all
The grand mysteries of existence remain unsolved.

We dig through time and try to comprehend
We study history in order to understand better the present and the future.

Through age we live and learn to fear the end
With time, we begin to grapple with the inevitability of death and the ultimate end of all things.

Through time we learn from what was done before
We try to glean wisdom from past generations in order to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.

But have no way to really know for sure
Despite our best efforts, we cannot ever fully comprehend the mysteries of the universe.

What we're truly here for
Ultimately, we cannot say with certainty what the purpose or goal of human existence is.

In the wake of adversity
When faced with hardship or misfortune,

At the edge of despair
When we feel like there is no hope,

Dark claws ripping skin
We feel the pain of our struggles as if from physical harm.

Shattered consciousness
Our mental state is broken by the difficulties we face.

This storm is alive
Symbolically, the storm represents the turmoil of the human condition.

Our minds, weakened from the constant doubt
Humanity's continuous existential uncertainty and anxiety takes their toll on our mental well-being.

Our weary bodies fall and hit the ground
The physical effects of constant hardship are felt in our bodies as well as our minds.

From ashes born and ashes we'll become
Humans will ultimately die and return to the earth from which they came.

But really what are all these ashes for?
Even though we know our ultimate fate, we still do not understand what it all means.

On the verge of a cliff
Symbolically, looking over the edge of a cliff represents facing the abyss of unknowing and uncertainty.

Just about to fall
When faced with such uncertainty, we feel as if we are about to topple into an abyss of despair.

In a broken mind
When we feel like we have no answers or control over our lives, the mind can become disordered.

There are no flickers of light
In these moments of darkness, it feels as if there is no hope or possibility of salvation.

I depart
When life feels unbearable, it can feel like the only choice is to leave it all behind.

I drown
Metaphorically, drowning represents becoming overwhelmed by the struggles of life.

I despair - I exist - I accept - I repeat
Despite the cyclical nature of despair, we continue to exist, accept what we cannot change, and move on.

Open the skies
Symbolically, opening the skies represents inviting in hope or possibility from beyond ourselves.

Let it all come down
In order to find hope, we must let go of our cynicism and allow ourselves to be open to new experiences.

Strong winds wash my skin
Again metaphorically, the wind represents the force of hope and possibility cleansing us of our negative feelings.

Numbness, take hold
As we feel the icy numbness of disappointment and despair lifting, we become more open to life's possibilities.

This storm is alive
Once again, the storm represents the dynamic nature of the human condition and our hopes and fears.
