I lay in the fields
Watching you arise the dead in me
Everyone’s looking for something.
Across the ground, scattered with the bones of past psalms and revolutions and the old, worn faith your father lent you.
Everyone is singing a song. And it’s always about the same thing. Love lost, love found, that great open space between heaven and earth.
Forget the proselytism, forget the harsh edges of the letter of the law. There’s someone up there, and He is like water and fire, deep with grace and mystery.
These are not songs of a preacher. They’re not ballads to lilting love. These are just alms to that old, worn faith. Skin for the skeleton. The sound of someone looking for a resurrection. From the opening throes of ‘Hallelujah’ to the closing refrain of ‘Resurrection Song’, Water and Fire is the sound of someone who travels with dust on his feet, connected to the earth, but eyeing heaven.
Everyone’s looking for something. Sometimes it is home. Sometimes it’s that long lost love. Sometimes it’s God.
Most times it is all of these.
This is my resurrection song,
Written in the only ink I own.
Help Me Believe
Strahan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I am not sleep
Tell me story
Recognize
Would you touch my face
Help me believe
But the story that I know from myself
Not like
Even doors open to me
Now I took a bom
Now you've cried, now you've
Just to fing you lord
It all I believe, help me believe
Would you help me believe
It wasn't so bad
It wasn't so bad
It's all I believe
Help me believe
The lyrics in Strahan's song Help Me Believe center around a cry for help and recognition. As the song progresses, the singer asks for assistance in believing in something, potentially suggesting a loss of faith. The phrase "help me believe" is repeated multiple times, emphasizing the desperation in the singer's request. The lines "my hair, I am not sleep, tell me story, recognize, would you touch my face" allude to a desire for physical touch and validation from another person. The line "but the story that I know from myself, not like cause I sing, even doors open to me" showcases the singer's belief in their own talent or skill, but they still struggle with belief in a higher power or purpose.
The last lines of the song, "now I took a bom, now you've cried, now you've, just to fing you lord, it all I believe, help me believe, would you help me believe, it wasn't so bad, it's all I believe, help me believe" can be interpreted as the singer coming to some sort of realization or breakthrough, potentially finding solace or comfort in faith.
Overall, the song tackles themes of doubt, vulnerability, and ultimately, the search for belief and a higher purpose.

Whisper in my ear
That I am not asleep
Tell me a story that I recognize
Would you touch my face
And help me believe
That the stories that I know for myself
Are not lies
Cause I have seen
Heavens doors open to me
I have shook to the bones
And I have seen your face as I lay on the floor
And I have cried
And I have sought
Like a beggar in my soul
Like a beggar in the world just to find you Lord
Cause Lord I believe help me believe
Lord I can see but I still can’t see clearly
Lord I believe would you help me believe
Cause I want it so bad

I heard about Strahan through a Christian friend of mine and really loved his music, I liked his Facebook page and saw a post that he was playing in Wellington (where I live), I wasn't born again at the time, I just liked his music and didn't want to miss out on seeing him live. I went and I sat there holding back so many tears, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit so strong in the room. In between songs he spoke about his experiences with God and his journey so far, a lot of it was foreign to me but something kept stirring in my heart. It was so strange to be a nonbeliever sitting there experiencing the presence of God and the love and fire of everyone around me. I went home feeling this huge need to just weep. A year later, I walked into a church and gave my life to God and haven't looked back. Praise God for beautiful artists like Strahan, may God bless him and his family <3

This song wrecked me. Spend weeks on the floor, crying out for more of Him. In a season of pain, Jesus is the only one who can help you. So here I am, crying out, like a beggar.

Me too. And here I am again. But God keeps drawing me deeper. In the last 14 months, I've had three times of despair and depression that could easily have done me in. I've had to come to the end of myself and put my hope completely on Jesus and his redemption. And he's teaching me the way of the cross. Thanks for sharing.
