I started growing them by accident. How they’d actually grew after the torture they’d been through was amazing to me: I put fresh strawberries into one of those Nutri bullet drinks, with other frozen berries, fruit & yogurt, then leave it in the fridge. I’d rinse the mix cup & pour it over the garden, then months later, I found 2x strawberry plants & the fruit was perfect! I’m glad it wasn’t a blackberry bush.

My plant grew its first runner. I just discovered it as I was weeding the patch. It already has a runner of its own.
As this is also my first runner (the plant is producing berries just fine) I couldn't bear to cut it off! I just gently cleared a place for it in the soil near its mum.

This I would really like to know. I bought 4 plants this year, 2 died but 2 thrived. It's autumn now and I've just noticed the runners. Would like to try but not sure where to keep them during winter. Do new runners survive if put out side once established?

I love ur video's! I love how you get straight to the point of the subject of the plant! You give a lot of information and you also show us exactly what you are exploring for the ones like me that are not that smart when it comes to growing n taking care of strawberry plants! What type of strawberry food do you give ur plants and how often? If I remember correctly you said twice a year the liquid food. I used vinegar and water on a small runner plant and it killed the runner plant so I'm not adding vinegar again. I will stick to liquid food with water only. I feel like some of my plants are not in the soil deep enough. The roots kinda look like they are rotting but the plants and leaves look great. Green. I have flowers. What can I do to keep my berries from rotting as they grow. Are they sick with some type of disease?? I hope you see my comment and will respond. Thanks

For some of my deep-buried runner that nearly rotted, I let them recover by fully submerging (crown only) them in purified bottled water. 3 days later, roots returned and the plant became full again for a retry at transplant. Don’t know how accurate the science is, but saved 8/10 rotting/weeping runners

I am from Cape Town, SA where it is going into autumn.
We have stormy winters: strong winter wind and usually very heavy winter rainfall.
How do I care for strawberries in containers where the one set of two is already in dormancy, and the other set of two are giving off healthy runners/stolens?
I am especially afraid of the ones in dormancy getting crown rot due to all the winter rainfall.
(I don't know names of the 2 different types of strawberry plants, neither do the people who sold them to me.)

Thanku for the great info :) I just bought a ever bearing strawberry plant in a hanging Basket a month ago and so new to it and lost one of the four plants already . Realizing that I covered the crown without any knowledge about it and learnt my mistake by coming here . Great that you advised to take runners early in summer and grow well and put for sale for good price or to get good harvest the next season :)

Depends on what stage they are in. If they are just cut, store them in water with just the bottoms touching. They'll grow nice new roots everywhere, just waiting to be planted. If they are already planted up, then just leave them to grow like a normal little plant. If they are still young runners, just leave them on the plant as long as possible, then cut them and put them in moist paper towel.

By far the most common way to propagate Strawberry plants is to simply take the runners from existing mother plants and away you go. Sometimes though, a better option is to propagate from seed! Its not that hard, I show you how here: https://youtu.be/EzUkM3lk8i4

HI, just returned for a little refresher. I hope you and your family are doing well in these difficult times. I thought my potted strawberries were going to be great this year. I had an early start with them as we had warm and sunny weather in the Spring. With that I had some early blossoms. The plants themselves are big and healthy compared to last year. No blossoms though, I like their white flowers.
I have a runner or two just starting, that's why I needed to see what to do with them.

I hear that strawberries are so easy to grow and I have struggled with them for a long time. I have three plants doing well this year: one is all all green bushy leaves and tons of runners but no fruit, one is small with tiny berries that rot before they turn red, and one has pale green leaves and looks unhealthy. What can I do to help them? I put bark around them but maybe I shouldn't have?

Hey Audra, definitely cut the runners off the plants with lots of foliage. Runners often suppress flowering as well as take energy from the mother plant. The other plants need help environmentally before even thinking about fruiting.

Omg, this is so funny. We bought ( out of fun) 2 strawberry plants this summer and they gave us a couple of delicious berries. Now I am planning to start a veggie garden in spring and I have been browsing garden videos over the last couple of weeks. So here I am, totally clueless and you are talking about runners. It was actually me, running outside to check, if my measly, potted strawberry plants had runners. And yesss, I picked about 5, planted them in a new pot and can't wait to see, if they survive.
I know you are supposed to do that before the summer and not in september, but it's still warm and sunny here in France. Thanks so much for this great and very informative video!!🙂

You can do either Lacy... If you're going to replant then into a bed, do it at least a month or so before that first fall frost date to get them established. :-)

Thank you for the video. I am growing strawberries indoors in pots with artificial lighting. I have 2 -4 foot l.e.d 80 par each and 3 lights that screw into a lamp 24 par each. The area is 15 square feet of space that im illuminating. One of my strawberry plants seems to be rotting at the crown. Do i have the crown too deep? Im pretty sure it is. I have a lot of plants that im growing indoors as i live in zone 6b and we have cold winter. I have all plants on 16 hours of light and 6 hours dark. I use miracle grow plant food once a week with waterings. I seem to have gnats or mealy bugs. Any suggestions to get rid of them safely? One last question. I have two mango trees that i started from seed. One seed produced four plants and three made it. Both plants where doing very well then they stopped growing. Right before i brought them in at the end of the summer. Any idea on why the would just stop growing? There are leaves that started tp form and they stopped midway. I alos get this fuzzy looking mold or something that grows on the top of the dirt. I read that its good and bad that its growing the fuzzy mold. Any info would be greatly appreciated Thank you

Yesterday morning I cut runners from strawberries from a friends place. I wasn't allowed to keep the runners attached and pot them. I had to cut them and pot them.
I've planted the runners in a good potting soil and keeping them in the shade. Today they look a little wilted. I'm making sure with the heat the soil is moist for them to draw moisture and nutrients as the roots take hold.
Is this normal or did I do something wrong in the transplanting. I know I should leave the runners attached but it just wasn't going to be.

I just started growing chandler strawberries in doors under grow lights and I water them with the aquarium water from my fish tanks. They’re really taking off. It’s great because the nutrients from the fish waste are a all natural fertilizer.

You definitely can Heidi. As long as you can plant them 30 days before the first fall frost hits, that is plenty of time!

They need to have root nodes forming.... Not full long roots... But the little bumps have to be there

It is a bummer if/that they only last a few years, since they are such a fast growing plant.
I've heard that you have to move them because year 3 the mother plant stops producing fruit. Have you found this to he true? Would cutting back the runners prevent this from happening? Thanks!

@Bear 777 good question. The runner is a fresh, young new plant that will become its own mother plant the FOLLOWING season and reset for a new 5 years!

@The Ripe Tomato Farms when you take a runner off the mother plant, will that runner now have its own 3-5 year of producing or would you it to only produce as long as the mother would. IE, can you keep taking a new runners off each year perpetually off last years planted runners.

Hey Carla, I always give baby plants a little bit of shelter until they get established. Runners are a bit tougher than seedlings, but still... :)

Hi. Quick question. Your video doesn't give out some essential information. So you say just plant them in the soil... Then what? Iv obviously water then straight away, but they all wilted? Is this normal? Will theycome back? Do thet need shady. Sun. Keeoing oyt the heat? Kept inside or out. Great video but more info please..
