Sweet Disorder
Strawpeople Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everybody′s sleeping, under my skin
Never quite believing and so it begins
Someone gets elected and a satellite falls
Are we reaching some conclusion
Or just talking to the wall

And I never knew what it is was
That we had left to prove and

Such a sweet disorder
Such a change to find
And the way you touch me
Never thought that I would find now

Everybody's sleeping, so I close my eyes
Your breath I am receiving, I fall you sigh
Someone gets rejected, and a satellite falls
Everything it makes sense and then nothing at all

Such a sweet disorder
Such a change to find
And the way you touch me
Never thought that I would find now

Sweet

Sweet

Sweet

Such a sweet disorder
Such a change to find
And the way you touch me
Never thought that I would find now

Such a sweet disorder
Such a change to find
And the way you touch me
Never thought that I would find now

Such a sweet disorder
Such a change to find
And the way you touch me
Never thought that I would find now

Such a sweet disorder

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Strawpeople's song "Sweet Disorder" reflect a sense of disillusionment and ambiguity in a world filled with chaos and uncertainty. The opening lines paint a picture of widespread apathy and disbelief, with most people "sleeping" and not fully grasping the reality around them. The mention of someone getting elected and a satellite falling suggests that significant events are happening, but the question arises whether they lead to any meaningful conclusions or if they are merely like talking to a wall.

The singer, represented by the singer, expresses their confusion about what they have left to prove and what they are searching for. The repetition of the phrase "such a sweet disorder" highlights the paradoxical nature of their feelings. The chaos and disarray in the world is described as both sweet and intriguing at the same time. It is a change that they have found, something unexpected and possibly even exhilarating.

In the second stanza, the singer acknowledges that they too are affected by the prevailing sleepiness and chooses to close their eyes. They find solace in the breath of another person, symbolizing a connection or intimacy. However, even in this moment of vulnerability, the fragility of human relationships is emphasized as someone gets rejected, paralleled with the falling satellite. This juxtaposition suggests that even when everything seems to make sense, it can quickly unravel and amount to nothing at all.

Overall, "Sweet Disorder" serves as a commentary on the perplexing nature of the world and the inherent disorder within it. It explores the bittersweet emotions that arise from living in a chaotic and unpredictable environment, while also hinting at the potential for connection and moments of unexpected beauty amidst the disorder.

Always felt Strawpeople deserved more recognition abroad. They were, very good. Simply Red, Crowded House on par with. I am 47 and live in the UK from NZ and remember this well.

@hongkongfueynz3071

Totally agree!

@guyguy3203

Most good NZ bands deserve way more attention. If people were just aware of it! Or maybe we just think it’s good because we are proud it sounds good for our small country?

@fletcherhamilton3177

@@guyguy3203 - not to be a pessimist but I find it’s the latter case a lot of the time. But then there’s Strawpeople- and Runga sisters-tier music which certainly did / do deserve more attention.
