Kickback
Stray From The Path feat. Brendan Murphy Lyrics

You take but you don't give
I tried to live and let live
But you grew too fat
So now I have to cut the head off the tick
Get a grip before you slip on your stepping stones
I see the shiver in your bones
You know the fall is fast
Smoke and mirrors, pull the trigger
You're the driver, I'm the car crash
And you'll never see it coming
Kickback
Feel the kickback
Time to cash your reality check
Cause you're talking out the side of your neck
You let your soul slip through the cracks
Feel the kickback
I don't stress the self-obsessed
Can't get that feeling off your chest
Your head gets bigger by the second
But you know you're only second at best
Dearly departed, this was over before it even started
You know the fall is fast
Another snake in the grass
Motherfucker smoke and mirrors, pull the trigger
You're the driver, I'm the car crash
And you'll never see it coming
Kickback
Feel the kickback
Time to cash your reality check
Cause you're talking out the side of your neck
You let your soul slip through the cracks
Feel the kickback
A cure collected from the ears of the immune
Like an insect clinging to an empty vein
With nowhere left to spread your plague
Return to the dirt from which you came
So spare me your sickness
If the venom hangs from hollow fangs
Uncommon extinction
As the swarm goes unsustained
It's not your fault, it's just who you are
Bullshit
The song āKickbackā by Stray From the Path Ft. Brendan Murphy speaks about standing up against those who take advantage of others and seek to harm them. The lyrics emphasize the idea of drawing first blood, with the singer acknowledging that they always knew their adversary would be the one to initiate conflict. The opening lines express the frustration of dealing with someone who takes but never gives, leading the singer to try to live and let live. However, seeing the other person grow too fat made it clear that action needed to be taken. The singer calls for the other person, likened to a tick, to be cut off before they grow even further.
Throughout the song, there is a sense of impending danger, with the singer warning the other person that they will never see the attack coming. The lyrics āyou know the fall is fast / a snake in the grassā suggest that the other person may be overconfident and unaware of the consequences of their actions. The imagery continues with the line āsmoke and mirrors, pull the trigger / you're the driver, I'm the car crash,ā which portrays the other person as manipulative and ultimately responsible for the destruction they cause.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the idea of a kickback, which can be either a physical force or a reaction to something negative. The lyrics speak to the idea of karma, with the singer calling for the other person to ācash [their] reality checkā and feel the consequences of their actions. The bridge of the song introduces new imagery, with a cure collected from the ears of the immune and an insect clinging to an empty vein. These lines further emphasize the idea of destruction and the futility of trying to spread a harmful influence.

They get better and better and brendan is literally a monster

Hopefully so. These tracks are way more promising than pretty much anything off their last album.

Jason LovesABR I agree with this. They were on Sumerian too so maybe being on UNFD will help. Love this band either way but I agree. I only loved the song with Vinnie Paz on it because I love Jedi Mind Tricks.

@@cjdoyle625 Yeah, same here. The only other songs other than that that were at least tolerable were The Opening Move, Loudest In The Room, and They Always Take The Guru. Strange Fiction also wasn't bad per say, but just a bit forgettable until the breakdown, but even Keith Buckley couldn't save the song completely.

@@cjdoyle625 Doubt the label has anything to day with stfp's song writing, will putney probably has way more impact
